Mid speaker in the way of the window?
I just bought Alpine Type R components for my 00 Civic HB and i've heard of aftermarket mid's being in the way of the window... happen to any of you and what did you do?

exactly........it isn't hard at all, and will give you a lot more room (relatively speaking).

I made a mdf spacer (3/4") for some Infinity components in my 99 Integra GS sedan and there was still room to put the door panel back in and use the stock speaker cover. I had to do a little creative cutting and shaving because I made the spacer a bit to big, but it fits great now. How much extra depth do you need? I would say give it a try and see how it works (I am guessing you should be fine in regards to depth once you use a 3/4" spacer - and chances are that the door panel and stock speaker grill will fit (but I cannot say for sure because I have never worked on a civic)). If you are interested, there is a pretty good DIY about this over at team-integra.net (in the articles section).
Hope this helps! Good luck.

I was having problems with my Focals in the door but with a 3\4" spacer everything fit fine. I did have to trim one of the speaker covers but it still fits in there nice and secure
Here are a couple of crappy pics of the fitament in a 96 GSR

You test fit and trim until it is right.

I had lots of time to test fit

Makeshift a-periodic doorpods own.

same reason you put a sub in a sealed box, better lowend response.

Yep, but I had MAD power handling in mind too. However, with it completely sealed it was indeed too small, I made the box miniscule and there is basically just enough room for the mid and a good dose of polyfill in there. There was TONS of midbass, but it was peaky, so that is when I decided to modify them and go a-periodic. I cut a hole in the back, and covered it with gortex material to weatherproof it (entire back is coated in fiberglass resin for same reason) and then put in the mat. This seriously flatened out the response curve because it can breath to the outside...and since it is still acting like it is in a sealed enclosure, the power handling is awesome too. I still need to get some grille metal and insulation and do the mat right, I will probably do that when I pull them out and finish the baffle.

cool ****, i always wondered why not many made a mini box/enclosure for the midranges...but dam, didnt realize it could be so small and be effective
