Default Keyless entry problem...

I have recently installed a JVC KG200 stero in my 98 honda civic ex 2 door. The stero works perfectly fine, however when testing the wires to see which was which, smoke started comming out near the left vent nearest the drivers side door, right above the fuse box of course i immeditly took the wires apart. (stupid to do that in the first place, i know) but now that everything is working except the keyless entry and the speedometer doesn't light up. I checked the fuse under the hood that is for the sun roof and the power locks, and the ones under the steering wheel for the pw/dr and instrument lights. What should i do, any help would be appericated.

You have factory keyless right?

You need a 1720t harness, and you have to keep your factory radio in the car in order for your keyless to work.

Okay, this is what you do, when you pull the radio out (original) you can then drop it down behind the dash. If you take off your lower dash, held in by 6 screws, you can put it back there, The 1720t has plugs that go into the factory radio and also a new harness to be wired up to your new radio. I hate installing in cars from 96-98 cause of that damn factory keyless!

It's just like customers bitching about spending 65 dollars on a VTGMRC01 harness cause GM runs airbags thru radios!

65 Dollars? What about ford escorts and taurus? $70 just for the kit.

just an fyi, the airbag deal hasn't been proved yet, and personally I *HIGHLY* doubt it does. I think only the door chime and dome light controls do. If the airbag did infact run in the radio, then anytime you use the 2003 harness to do a cav or similiar car, the airbag light *would* come on. Anytime you touch something airbag related and turn the ignition on, the SRS computer checks EVERYTHING. Hell one time I was doing a volvo and bumped a damn plug and it caused the light to come on.

LOL would you like to be the one where your airbags dont go off when you get in an accident? I wouldn't. Better safe than sorry! And if you are talking about the escort/taurus with the round dash, and the tuner in the trunk, it's actually $50. At least where i work, that's what we charge for the whole thing.

It actually has been proven, the airbags DON'T go through the factory radio. Databus does go through the radio, but the airbags will function without the radio. The only real reason to retain the factory radio in a new chevy is to have the door chime/oil reset light and other databus programmable options. Also if that is all you charge for the kit and harness for the ford taurus then you are loosing some money there, depending on the brand you are using.
