Default Ipod hookup to alpine head unit

I'm having trouble hooking up my ipod to my alpine head unit. The head unit was already installed when I got the car. I bought a cable that plugs into the headphone jack of the ipod, then splits into red/white audio plugs.

After taking the head unit out, I found that there were two sets of unused red/white audio cables (but there are no audio inputs directly in the back of the unit). I tried both of these and I could get playback from my ipod thru the factory speakers, but it was also playing the radio unless i turned the radio volume almost all the way down (If I turned it all the way down it also stopped the ipod's playback).

Also my subwoofer was not receiving any signal from my ipod (no I did not accidentally disconnect anything, the sub still worked when playing the radio). Am I missing something here or am I just going to have to buy one of the aftermarket ipod adapters?

Thanks

Um, you can't run an ipod through outputs on the deck...

If the deck has a changer input or an aiNet port, you can purchase an aux-input adapter for those jacks, but the way you have it run will never work.

What model deck do you have?

Ditto the above^^^^

Depending on model, your Alpine HU may be "iPod ready" an Alpine iPod adapter is needed, or as mentioned, if the HU is a CD changer controller HU, then an adapter for the changer port to give you an AUX input can be found at many places, you can also get an iPod adapter, using the iPods docking port, that plugs into the HUs changer port. 94
