Default Installing an Alpine without the metal sleeve?

I have a '99 Honda Accord and an Alpine CDA 7839 (a 1999 model). I also have an Alpince cd changer (CHA-620, if I remember right), currently hooked up to the factory radio, it would go nicely with the CDA 7839 (ai-net).

When I took it out of my previous car I forgot to take out the metal mounting sleeve. Where can I get a new sleeve relatively cheaply, or is there a way to securely mount it without the metal mounting sleeve?

Edit: OK, found it at http://www.pacparts.com for ~ $16 after shipping, so I can always go that route. But is it necessary to install the radio?

Thanks!

The sleeve is required to secure the head unit onto the dash kit. The sleeve has metal "fingers," for lack of a better term, which you bend up. These "fingers" hold the sleeve in place onto the dash kit. The head unit then slides into the sleeve.

There are heaps of places to get generic sleeves, you could probably get one second hand for a buck, but if yours is like mine you need an alpine - specific model that clips onto the headunit to hold it in.
If you can find another way to stop the headunit sliding out when you accelerate then you can use any sleeve.
