what kind of amp kit do i need to wire up 2 450 watt subs and a 400 watt amp

8 gauge i am pretty sure. My alpine runs 300watts rms and i think i ran an 8

For how cheap you can get 4 guage kits, you may as well run that, rather than the 8 guage, in case you decide to upgrade your system in the future.

i agree that 4awg to the back with a distribution block is definately the way to go. not only will you have the flexibility in the future, but you'll have less voltage drop (not a huge issue in your situation but still a nice bonus)
