Most often I use 2" to 2 1/4" drywall screws. Any hardware store sells these. You can do this easily with a basic cordless drill, I've even seen people do it by hand!

You should connect the wires and place the speakers where they will be mounted in the box. There is no need to predrill the holes for the screws... doing so may affect how they bite into the wood. The screws will thread themselves into the wood fairly easily, just make sure not to slip and punch a hole in the lining.

For an even mount, you can even drill the screws into the wood in a cross pattern... top to bottom and so on proceding around the speaker. GL

every hole, and I suggest pre-drilling just to be safe.

Ive never predrilled with a drywall screw when screwing in a subwoofer to s basic wood baffle. If you're using MDF, you might get away with a very small predrill, but it's not necessary. When building a box, if you have to use drywall screws, and you're not just drilling through a 3/4" wood, then predrill for sure. I've probably installed over a 100 different subs in at least 75 different enclosures and have never predrilled a one.

I went to lowes and got some little half inch blk sheet metel screws they have a raised rounded head and since they are for sheet metel they have a pretty big thread. as long as you put one in every hole they hold real good and they look real good too

For every sub I have installed I predrill every hole! I always use 3/4 MDF, and drywall screws. When I am building boxes I use my drill and I borrow two other cordless drills. That way I have three. One for predrill, one for countersink bit and the third to put the screws in. I have seen too many peices split.

When installing speakers I would predrill and put one in every hole. Do not use a power drill to screw the screws in. I have seen a cordless drill go right through a brand new JL 12/w3 and a brand new Infinity Kappa perfect.

Maybe I am a little more ****, or I guess it could be that I am a woodworker, but I drilled the holes, used a t-nut and then bolted the speakers in.

I always predrill the holes, use screws in every hole and use a good amount of silicone ......nothing like a good tight seal, don't want air to get out....

Hmm... two full systems today... and Zero predrills on any of the subs. Predrilling is not necessary. What is necessary: 1) a steady hand 2) a drill 3) a good drywall screw 2"-2 1/4"
