I am looking to buy a remote start for my girlfriend for christmas, probably a 2-way fm system with at least 1500'-3000' range. Anyway, I have a pretty good amount of experience in car audio, installed many many decks, speakers, amps subs, relays for custom setups, etc. I am wondering if installing a remote start is a fairly capable task in one or two afternoons. I am trying to avoid a system with an alarm as I don't need any of the alarm features, mainly looking for the start and keyless entry. Also, does anyone know if I do end up getting a system that is with an alarm, can you just not use it as an alarm (ie: do they give u a way to make it work as remote starter only)? Thanks

 

remote starters are fairly easy. especially if you have electrical experience.

the biggest task is making the installation clean but the number of wires is reduced if you're just installing remote start and keyless entry

adding alarm features requires more work of course.

 

It'll all depend on the car you're installing it into. Honda/Acuras are mostly easy. If the car has a factory immobilizer, it can be a little tricky. Once you have your wiring diagrams for the car you're working on, the rest is up to you and your creativity.

The hardest part is just as tilegend said, making the install clean. You want your wires connected well, routed as close to factory as possible, and modules mounted firmly under the dash or wherever you choose.

 

MM&Y of car?
If you do not want an alarm just get the remote start it will make installing a lot easier/cleaner.
As mentioned the MM&Y of car it is going into will determin how much work it will be and how difficult or easy it will be and if you need a bypass module or not.

Also need to know if car has an OEM alarm? 94
