hood release cable
Woke up in the morning after my GF comes back from the bathroom holding my keys saying your ... uhh keys are beeping ..... ran outside and the hood of my car was popped .... looks like they grabbed the hood release cable inside the grill and when it popped the hood my alarm scared them off......
I have searched for a hood release relocation thread for 96-00 civics and can not find anything
I was wonderin also if there is a way to do it, if there is a write up on it and if using those MR Gasket hood locks are a good idea?
Thank you all.

I still can not find anything .... I am thinking of making a cover for the cable and pop riviting it in place .... I will take pictures and post them when I finish .....
true but the problem with 96-00 is that you can get your hand through the grill and actually touch the hood release mechanics let alone the cable

so why cant you put a piece of sheet metal in front of it to stop or at least pro long this?
i am going to use a trunk popper on my hood because i will have more money in my engine bay than in the car.

i will be doing that .... I was thinking of getting a piece of sheet metal bending it like -v- with a notch for the latching mechanism ... and pop rivit to the core support so everything is incased and there still will be good airflow .....

like a little solenoid? Just give it a switched 12v and it will open? What pull solenoid would you need?

very true rdagget but thieves can pop your fender wall down a little bit and pull on the cable and your hood will open thats why its good 2 relocate it through the engine bay

Thank you all.</TD></TR></TABLE> Although most of the posts above are correct, there is a very easy way to open any Honda/Acura hood, [even with a rerouted cable] A new trend we are also seeing up here in Canada is the "pealed" hood, one corner bent up out of the way, to gain access to the batt.
I have found the most effective way to prevent the kind of damage this causes, is to install 2 hood pins, [one on each side] set so lifting the corners of the hood, [even a little] will trip the alarm, and installing a lock the will let the hood open to it's safety latch, [tripping the alarm] but no farther, giving the crook no quick access to the batt.

^^^^^^^^^^^ Good advice
I also try to put the pins as close to the fender as possible.
Hood lock may help but not really. I have seen pealed front bumpers, where they just cut a huge hole in the plastic bumper. Maybe glue a large piece of thick sheet metal under the bumper. Make it large so the surface area is large so it would take a lot of energy to remove it.

even the EF's and EG's have this problem too, when i first got my 95 hatch the handle on the hood release was broken, so i just reached up under the front bumper and yanked on the cable. its easy to do on the EF's too as long as u know where the cable is
best thing to do would be make a cover plate for the cable, and latch, or just get a set of locking hood pins like i did and call it done. We have bad thieves up in VA and this is y i got the locking hood pins; I heard a wrench hit the ground outside one night at like 2:30 in the morning (I happend to be up playing some Final Fantasy and my window was cracked open) some mexicans were trying to steal my CF hood, they had the two bolts out of the d-side and had one to go on the p-side when i came running out with the .22 rifle in hand with 30 round banana clip. they ran and jumped in a newer teg as soon as i came out the door, let off 5 rounds at the car for fun. What sucked is i could not chase em down casue my hood was half laying on the ground. Cops never did a thing about it
Maybe if the front door did not squeel like all hell i could have snuck up on them
