i've currently got my ipod hooked up to my pioneer head unit in the F location and sound will only come out of the front speakers. right next to the left and right F plugs there is the S/W, and no sound emits at all when the ipod is plugged in there. there is also the REAR OUTPUT, and suprise suprise, when connect there the ipod plays only from the rear speakers.
so basically, i'd like to know what i'm doing wrong. connected in the wrong place? do i need to change my settings on the head unit? i'm not well versed in car audio, so if it seems like it's something simple and dumb, mention it please!

Sounds like you have your ipod hooked up to output wires. The rca connectors on the back of your deck are preamp outputs. They put out a signal they are not for aux input. I believe on the pioneers to use the aux input you have to have a adapter to convert you cd changer plug to rca inputs. This link has what you need.

Yeah. What he said.
There's also an adapter that will plug into your iPod and allow you to control it through the head unit (providing you have a newer unit, made within the past year or so). If you've got an older Pioneer, the iPod interface prolly won't work, but the adapter linked above will....

i got an adapter similar to the one mentioned above from best buy for like $29, its just a rca to cd changer (aux) adapter but i think the packaging of what i got was labeled a satalite radio adapter.
actually i got a similar question. so instead of taking up space ill just ask it her. I was lookin at that pioneer CD-IB100 ipod adapter and it lists some headunits but mine isnt listed. If you look at the head unit specs it says ipod ready then to the right instead of a check it says y. look for yourself and tell me what you think it means please. Thanks for the help.

It would seem to me the "y" means it can use the iPod adpt., maybe if it's a newer HU it came out after the list of HUs that work with the iPod adpt, was loaded onto their site, and it has not been updated yet.
Why not just contact Pioneer tech support and ask, http://www.pioneerelectronics.....html
