Default Help with Sound System, please?

Alright guys, I was just looking for a little bass.. What I have/had

Amp: Sony XM-1252GTR 800watt max;
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-MDHFA2I...M-1252GTR.html

Sub: MA Audio MA100QS 10inch Sub;
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...o+MA100QS.html

It all worked pretty good For a long time till I decided to turn the amp up a bit.. Now it keeps cutting out, but the AMP is powered on. The correct wiring was done, and the wires are all the correct wattage for this set up.. So I assume its my Sub, which is no big deal because I got it dirt cheap new on EBAY.

And also, Im going to use this same Amp because I have it and dont want to spend much money.. Anyone reccomend a good 10 inch Sub that would work well with my amp? I dont want anything super loud, just some nice sounding bass.. Dont want to spend too much. I will probably just buy the same MA audio sub unless you guys dont think its good, or dont think it works well with my amp

Sorry for all the "noob" questions but I really want to get it all squared away so I dont have to keep messing with it and getting in the truck of my Mint Integra. very annoying.

yeah the thing with car audio is, you just cant assume it is one thing when it could be another. It could literally be 10 different things, you just dont know until you can diagnose the problem from the start. If it keeps cutting out, and the amp is turned on, I dont think it would be a problem with your sub, more so your amp or your wiring. I remember when I first got into car audio my amp would keep cutting in and out due to a bad ground location. Check your grounds, check ALL your wiring, then tell us what you find.

Did you have a shop do the install, or did you do it yourself? how knowledgeable are you on car audio? Do you have any pictures you can show us?

I've taken it all out now. I wired it myself but I've gone quite a few Sub installs. Its pretty simple. I've got the Power Wire with inline fuse headed through the firewall, under the carpet, into the trunk, Ground is On a bold under the floor in the trunk, Remote wire comes from back of my CD player, and obviously so do the RCA cables... Everything's hooked up right, as It worked for months. Amp has Indicator light that comes on when there is power to the AMP... Light was on. Amp was getting power.

OK guys, I purchased an Alpine Sub.. Its a Single Voice Coil 4 ohm Sub.. My Amp is a 2 channel Amp. I want to make sure I hook it up right. The Amp has 2 posotive hook ups, and 2 negative hook ups.

Once the wires are hooked up to my sub, Which set of hook ups do I run them to? Lets say on the Amp, that there is a set of positve and negative hook ups on the left, and another set on the right.. My question is, Do I take the positive wire from my sub and hook it up on the left, AND take the Negative wire from my sub and hook it up on the right? Or Do i Hook up the positive on the Rightside positive, and the negative on the left side negative.. Does my Question make sense?

Alpine subs come with directions on how to hook the sub up for 4ohms, 2 ohms, 1ohm, etc....

That will connect a subwoofer with one sound coil to the two-channel amplifier it is necessary to find contacts to inscription "Bridged" on the amplifier. As on a picture

put the bass lower on the amp, then try turning up the volume on the headunit, it cuts off because either your amp is not powerful enough for the sub or the sub is wired at 1ohm which the amp can't give out that much power to the sub, it might be 800 watts max but it wont give you 800 rms. try rewiring ur amp at 2 ohms, give out the specs of the amp, and sub. ur links dont work...

Yes you have.

The question I would ask the OP, [topicstarter] wegotmorrison is what is the model number of the Alpine sub?

The Sony XM 1252GTR is rated at 1x340W RMS into 4 ohms @ 14.4V, real world, it is probably a clean 1x300W RMS into 4 ohms, it is also not stable below 4 ohms when bridged into mono, not a problem if the new Alpine sub is a SVC 4 ohm sub, [if so, it is a Type E, but that would be assuming]94

well the problem sounds to me like you went with a cheap amp and thats what you got sony amps are known to over heat because most of them do not have cooling fans ive found that if your running a sony amp you should mount it to the back of your box this will give the amp more air circualtion especially if you put a washer between the amp and the box

Yeah sony amps are cheap thats why I bought it. Its not overheating It powers on and is not hot at all... I had it hooked up wrong before.

And yes the Alpine Sub is a Type E SVC 4OHM, good call... Im pretty sure I know how to bridge it now.. But not 100%

If a subwoofer with one sound coil that, having connected incorrectly, to burn it it is unreal. And here if a subwoofer with two coils wrong connection it is possible to burn both a subwoofer and the amplifier.
Be very attentive!!!

Wrong in so many ways.

Although you are correct that Sony amps are "cheap" and I am no fan of Sony, but you are wrong about them heating up because they have no "cooling fans", your also wrong about mounting the amp on the back of the box, amps should never be mounted to a sub box, the constant vibration is not good for the amp, and if you have to mount it to the box it should be on top of the box for best heat dissipation, it is always best to mount the amp, [any amp] horizontally.

You are correct about air circulation, but only that it is needed, that goes for all amps, with or without "cooling fans". 94

You will connect the subs pos.(+) lead to the amps left speaker pos.(+) terminal and the subs neg.(-) lead to the amps right speaker neg.(-) terminal, the amps left speaker neg.(-) and right speaker pos.(+) terminals are not used.

Son of a B.... Alright, So I've got the amp and sub all hooked up right now.. And I turn it on and it all seems fine...

Then I noticed that The Amp turns on and off on high bass songs that are semi loud.. I know it could be an underpowered amp, but what else could it be??

And the thing Im MOST pissed off about, is that now my right side speakers dont work .THey are both Quality speakers. I have Hertz Audio all the way around. They were expensive. Do you guys have any idea what could have caused them to stop working? Im getting so effing pissed Im about to take it to a shop and tell them to fix everything. I dont want to pay that money though.

may be bad ground...

It is necessary to check by process of elimination.
1) whether the HU gives a signal on a RCA?
That it to check up, it is possible to connect speaker directly to a RCA. He will play, but is very silent.
2) whether gives a signal the amplifier?
Connect any another speaker (which 100 percent work) on acoustic plugs of the amplifier.
3) whether the signal on a crossover comes?
Search for a crossover, check contacts. Connect speaker on entering wires, whether comes to check up a signal from the amplifier. Connect spaeker on proceeding plugs to check up serviceability of a crossover.
4) whether works itself speaker at doors?
A tester measure its resistance. If it is (nearby 4 Om) that it works. If there is no resistance it is broken.
P.s.
A tester measure its resistance.
I do not know how correctly to tell. You understand me?

Your driving a set of Hertz speakers of a HU, hummmmm????

The amp issue could be, as mentioned, a grounding issue or possibly a power issue.

What type of fuse is on the power cable?
What gauge is the power and ground cable?
Where and how is the amp grounded?
How long is the ground cable?

The amp is not underpowered for the sub you have, it is just overpowered enough.

It is also possible the amp is damaged, [protection circuit].

As for the speakers I would pull the HU and check the wiring.
You have checked the HUs balance control, right?
You may also have to pull the speakers and check the wiring to them.
What model of Hertz do you have? 94

I actually noticed today that my speakers dont work only when using my Ipod Interface.. So Im assuming one of the RCA cables is unplugged in the back of my H/U. I dont know the model of hertz I have, but they are the basic ones, Got them for 150 I think.
