Default help a porting noob?

ok well im in the process of building an enclosure for my crx and ive decided to go ported. ive used a enclosure calculator thing and it says ive got around 8 ft to play with, but it doesnt sound right to me for some reason. BUT i just ordered one of the 2 15inch rockford hx2's im puttin back there. i want there to be a single chamber and a single port. now for the port after i figure out what to tune it to (what should i by the way, this is for daily driving) do i just cut a rectangle and thats it, or do i have to build a chamber of some sort? i know you guys know your stuff about porting, and i know nothing.

are the 15 hx2's (not power) pretty good in ported box?

Tune it between 30 and 35.

Does your amp have a subsonic filter?

ok well i just looked at my measurements for the box and theres no way in hell thats how big it is, it might be 6cu ft. that stil doesnt sound right for being the trunk of a crx.

since i am making everything but the top of the box out of fiberglass (so i can get every little bit of area i can) will it hurt the performance of the ported enclosure? i hope not i really need some lows. loud ones too!

If you give me the dimensions of your trunk i can see what is possible. I don't know how you are going to get 2 ported 15's in there without a wall

First of all which do you have, the punch or power hx2? (why does rf give to subs the same name). Post the t/s parameters and recommended box size. I am assuming you have 6 cubes internal to work with. With a port big enough to have no port noise on 2 15's your port may easily consume 1 cube. I check rf's site and cannot find specs on that sub.

theyre just the punchs. but i was talkin to a guy on termpro and he said hes got 2 15s in a 6ft enclosure and they hit really hard. so good enough.

hhaa no wall. i know they can fit, i know someone that put 3 12s ported in the same part im puttin the 15s. i had some 15s before but not ported.

uhh well i was messin aorund on some calculator things and im gettin around 6 cu ft but thats just an estimation, im not even done w/ the box yet. but it was tryin to get it at 6 ft tuned to 30 hz. the calculators said i could do a 6x11 port would that even work, i mean, thats a bigass hole. haha

66 square inches, that is a girly port. Check out the box I was building for my xxx.

Anyway. You have 6 cubic feet internal space. Subtract .46 for the 2 15's. I come up with a port length of 25 inches at 66 square inches to tune you to 35. You box volume will be 4.6 cubic feet after sub and port displacement.

Is that what you were looking for

well another problem im having is that the top of the enclosure is only 37.5 " wide so i dont know how im gonna fit 2 15s and a bigass port.

i think what im just gonna end up doing is waiting until i have both 15s and amps and put them in the box sealed, before i make the fiberglass baffle, cuz then i can play w/ it and see if aport will fit and see how it sounds and whatnot.

i still need to learn alot more about it anyways

Put subs up and port firing to the front or rear.

well i do have a spot i can make the port so it fires forward, but still i dont know if it will be big enough because my amp rack takes up most of the space behind the seats, and in front of hte box.

ok well the space that i can make the port that would fire toward the seats is about 10 inches tall and 37 inches wide. i could prolly use that?

would it still sound good w/ the port firing that way?

It is easier to hear port noise when it is firing at you. But your port should not have any noise, except at loud volume.

dont you usually jus hear port noise out of little ports? i found a crx w/ the almost same design as my enclosure and amp rack, but my amp rack is at an angle instead of flat like this one.

http://www.sounddomain.com/mem...20CRX

would it help if i made 4 round ports like that one? i dunno

15s r too big 4 ur crx 2 12s would have been perfect
depending on ur box size u need to tune it to peak 12-6 frequces down from 48-51hz
and a box with the speaker facing up /port faceing the rear works best

well i like 15s and ive had 2 15s before. they were sealed tho and i liked them. so im not even gonna port my box yet if i even do cuz im just gonna stick them in there sealed, im gonna be runnin 2 12s in this box till i can get the amps and 15s too so im jus gonna wait to really do anything.

this will change ur mind

world records r broken with 12s in crxs(db drag)
15s r to big because u can t make a box big enuff to fix that crxs trunk(unless u use the whole trunk and back area)
last year i build a box with 2 12 kicker squares in a crx and hit a 152.4db with a 7.5 cubic box

I think he wanted an sql setup, not strictly spl. 40+ hz tuning does not meet that criteria.
