Icon2 Help choosing an alarm

I have a '99 Civic Si and I'd like to get a reliable alarm for it.

I've been looking at the Viper 5704. This would come out to around $470 with install included($200 on Amazon, $265 for install at a shop), probably more.

I saw the sticky thread and saw the Clifford 570.4X. Looks nice and costs around the same as the Viper. Which is better?

The price seems kind of high. It has goodies that are more for spoiling yourself and not for security such as the remote start and the keyless entry. This adds to installation costs as well. Is there any reliable alarm out there that doesn't have these features? So basically just good shock sensors so when they touch the car it'll go off? Am I cheating out? Would the keyless entry and remote star be good security wise? What do you guy recommend? I'll spend the $500 if I have to, but feels like most of it is going towards goodies and not actual security for the car.

Just buy a 1 way alarm then. You have lots of options less than $100. The crimestopper sp101 is $34.

Only $34? Is it reliable though? Have you had it before? How's the brand?

you have an em1 and you're really considering a $34 alarm?

consider this system: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...%5BIgnore%5D=1

they have it on amazon for cheaper, but you can't get the extended warranty.

don't cheap out on security... use as many layers as you can afford.

Alarm
Clutch lock
quick release wheel/hub lock
kill switches

just an honest opinion.

Viper Responder 350 is what you're looking for (which you can get on Amazon for only a bit over $100)
It has no remote start, BUT has 2 way. Keyless entry isn't what makes installation expensive btw.

So you could buy that alarm, and a few add-ons and it will still be cheaper than the alarm you were planning to buy.

Isn't the 5901 the older version of the 5704? And that responder 350 looks nice. I plan on buying other items for security little by little. I heard a good steering wheel lock is a must. Do you guys know any good ones that aren't from autozone lol. Same for a clutch lock.

Aren't the viper 5704 and clifford 570.4x the same model?

Looking into it, I guess it is about the same.

Up until now, I've been looking at the Python Responder LE 333. It's like $136 with tax and free shipping at sonic. Called the two well known install places in my city, both said they charge $140 for the installation for one of these. Not bad at all, $280 total.

They said that a back up battery would be around $100. Can I just buy this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Directed-Elect.../dp/B000CIY5NS

And have them install it for me? Much cheaper than the full $100 for them to get it for me right? Do I even need a back up battery? Wouldn't the shock sensor detect the theives trying to get access to the battery?

As for clutch lock and steering wheel lock, which is better to have, or should I get both? Do you guys know any good ones, that are hard to saw through, that aren't from Autozone?

Killswitch: Do I have to go somewhere special to get it installed or can the alarm place do it for me? About how much would I cost and how long would it take to install? What would be a good spot?

Once again, it's my first car and I live in the 2nd city with the highest car theft rate. Even though I live in the good part of town, I'm not taking any chances. Thanks for the help.

The backup battery is there to keep the kills activated in the event the main battery is disconnected. The backup battery is absolutely essential if you want an effective alarm.

As for clutch lock and steering wheel lock, which is better to have, or should I get both? Do you guys know any good ones, that are hard to saw through, that aren't from Autozone?
I have both, and use either/or/none, situation dependent. It's another layer, and I don't know how easy any of them are to cut. Consider these devices a visual deterrent.

An alarm installer should be able to handle this. It should be within easy access to driver, but well hidden from view. You're only limited by your imagination in terms of placement and function. You can use magnetic switches, proximity switches, RFID, etc.

You own the most stolen car in the US. Do whatever you possibly can to keep it safe. There's probably at least one stolen EM1/Integra thread here at least once a week.
