I was wondering if anyone knew how to help me diagnose this problem:

I've got an amp hooked up to 2 8" subs. No matter what the overall volume on the head unit or the sub level (it can even be turned to ATT) the subs make a REALLY loud hissing/static sound. Anyone have any idea what this could be? Wiring issues or is my amp blown?

My setup worked just fine for a couple years, then this problem grew over a few weeks until it was unbearable and I just unplugged the amp from the rest of the system.
