Default HELP!! Alpine CDA7897

The face on my CDA7897 doesn't light up anymore. It plays CD's and hides away normally but the display is off. anyone know anything about this? Im thinking I pressed something to turn the display off but now I dont know how to turn it back on, and I lost the manual. Anyone know how to fix this?

I have the same headunit. The feature is called "blackout", it turns off the bright display for night driving if you need to (it is a pretty dam bright display!). You turn it off and on by holding the "display" button for about four or five seconds. When you adjust volume, skip tracks, change radio stations, does the display come on for a few seconds and then turn off again? (that's how blackout works). Hope that's all it is, have a great day!

Do you have the illumination (dimming) wire hooked up? That maybe your problem. If not - sound like you need to have the deck serviced. This happened to one of my Alpine decks a couple of years ago - the bulb/led was goin and the display was slowly fading away. Cost like $40 to fix.

thats exactly whats happening to mines. the display is slowing fading away. So do you mean that I have to have the illumination wired hooked up or no?

The illumiantion wire is for when you turn on your headlights, the display on the deck will dim so that it is not so bright in the cabin. Sounds like the LED for the display is burning out and will need to be serviced by Alpine.
