Default Head Unit Problems...

Ok....

Sometimes while driving my head unit will just turn off then turn right back on. I made sure the harness was fine and everything was connected correctly. What other things should I look for? It's pretty annoying to be listening to a song and have the HU just shut off then start back up.

Any ideas? Thanks.

It's the HU's power, not a speaker wire problem.

If it is just the sound, a speaker or speaker wire shorting out will shut off the HUs amp.

If it is the acc. power on the HU,[ no lights, nothing but it keeps memory presets and clock] its the red acc. wire connection or in the HU.

If it also loses memory its the yellow constant power wire, or in the HU, also check the fuses, with HU on wiggle the fuses in there sockets.

hope this helps. 94

Use a voltimeter and check for unstable current in the +/- wires.

Also, pull on each wire in the harness and make sure each one is secure in the harness

If its not the harness... could it be anything else?

It's the power to the HU... its not losing memory or presets or anything... so I'm not sure if its the harness.

Maybe there's a loose connection inside the HU.

Sometimes, blown speakers will short the radio to turn off. Bumps in the road may cause exposed speaker terminals, such as those in the front doors, to touch the metal and cause the radio to short and momentarily turn off or cut off sound.

Shorting speaker will not cause your head unit to shut off, it will cause the IC chip inside your deck to fry, at which point you will no longer hear sound coming from your deck. From the sounds of it, you have a detachable faced unit. What happens is, when the contact between the face and deck get corroded, the contact is lose momentarily. This cause the deck to think you have just detached the face and turns your deck off. Clean the contacts behind the face of your unit with a pencil eraser. It should fix the problem.

sometimes it would make my headunit just shut off and then turn right back on automatically

sometimes it would reset everything

it was usually everytime i hit the clutch because my clutch foot would snag the wire at the tip and move it.
