Default Which head unit to buy?

I'm stuck between the Alpine 9815 or the new 04 Alpine 9835. I don't like how the screen on the 9835 is black and white. Then again, on Alpine's website it does say "It lets you fully customize both illumination and sound, witha range of 512 colors and super-versatile Bass Engine functions like digital time correction and parametric EQ." Anyone know if you can change to screen to color?

What are the prices you've found for those two? I was considering the same ones.

The 9815 goes for around $350-400 online. I'm guessing the 9835 will be a bit more when it comes out.

How sure are you on this? Because the 9835 doesn't come out til later this month.

I just called Alpine support and they told me that you can't change the color of the screen. It's only black & white. Looks like I'll be going with the 9815.

I just got back from the Alpine training yesterday. The color changing is really sick...It's all the buttons that change, and when they say 512 colors they aren't kidding. Find a store that has them and go play with it, If you're worried about findinding a radio that will match your color scheme, fear no more, you'll be able to match it no problem. And the black and white display is pretty sick too, it makes Pioneer's EL display look out of date! I mean the 9815 is really nice, but I'd go with the 35.

Anyone intrested in this head unit. It's not an alpine, but is a pioneer. A multimedia system you know what i mean.

If you get that screen then you will still have to buy a dvd/cd player...that is just a screen, and the resolution on that screen isn't as good as most of the new screens that should be coming out in the next month or so. Pioneer has one coming out that is an indash DVD/CD/MP3, with built in navagation(no other pieces to buy!), and it comes with a display that will show 3 gauges with multiple G meters, a Speedo, and other gauges for the vehicle, it will retail for 1999. This year you get more and more for your money!!!

I agree with you on that one. But I dont think most of us would spend 2000 on a built in indash screen w/ dvd,mp3 player. And the one's that do must be filthy rich or something. DVD players arent that expensive anyways. For a good one they usually run for 200 bucks, brand name one. For a generic one (which will work the same) runs for about only 100 bucks..maybe less.

Hey Goatsterrman, you said you went to an Alpine training. Does the 9835 have cool screen savers like the Pioneer EL Gel? Can you download your own screensavers if it does? The 04 Alpine's aren't out yet where I live. I'm dying to check this deck out before making up my mind.

Why not just save like another 300-400 bucks and grab an Alpine LCD tv screen. If you're gonna spend like 400-500 on a deck..might as well grab a screen, just my opinion.

THe CDA9835 will retail for $550. It has the Biolite display like the CDA7998 which is similar to the Organic EL display from Pioneer. If you don't like the white, you can hit the blackout button so the lcd display lights up only when you use a function on the radio then turns off after 5 secs. The button themselves can change to 512 different colors to match your deck perfectly. It is such a SICK deck for the money.

The black and white looks a little too plain, but otherwise looks like a really cool HU. I have a 9813 and I think there's a little too much going on with the display.

The 9835 looks awsome. Does anyone have an exact date and price for the release?

Because I won't have any use for a LCD deck. I think it's a waste of my money if I'm not going to use it to it's potential, plus I don't think that a LCD deck belongs in a small compact car. I have my reasons why.

I called my local car audio shop and they said try back in the second week of March. I would guess they should be out by late March.

I was told by Alpine that they should ship from Alpine to the Distributors the weekend of the 13th....I'd say expect them in your stores around the 27th or the week after, the display is really cool....if you remember a year ago when Alipine had it's 1.3 din display that folded out, the display has all the same stuff going on...the prototype we played with did atleast...the Clouds, the moving volume stuff...

well the only screen that plays dvds is $2300 (IVA-D900) and the face plate is not removable. even at the price i can get it for it is still more expensive then my set up now. plus i wont pay full retail for it. true it is nice but $$$ wise not nice enough. now maybe the new iva-d300 but im sure that will be way out of my price range.

the new lower end models will be out by the end of this week or next.
ex. 9821, 9823,9825, 9827
