Default Hard start

Hey guys,

Im having power issues that i believe to be related to either my stereo or alarm...a changed the alternator and tested the battery which is fine. Alternator charges the battery to 28ish volts but when i go to start my car it struggles to start if left off for a while. when i go to start my car i can hear the amp clicking on and off while the car is cranking...if i cut the power to the stereo the car will finally start. So im not sure what is draining the battery while its parked. The alarm is a cheap pretty much factory alarm using the factory horn so i dont htink its that. Any ideas on what to check. I have a kenwood 4 channel amp powering my speakers components up fornt and 6x9's in the rear, 4 gauge wire from the battery to a fuse to the amp...

If your alternator is throwing out 28 volts your battery has been overcharged and might have a bad cell. How are the battery connections and grounds on the battery and tranny.

I think you answered your ON question... "if i cut the power to the stereo the car will finally start" my guess would be it has something to do with the stereo. 94

Well that would have been nice...i pulled the fuse to the stereo last night and well it was tough starting this morning...only thing i had on was the alarm....so now its parked outside of work with no alarm on...we will see what happens when i go to lunch....could it possibly be the battery? I hate to keep throwing parts at it...with the volt meter last night after driving home from work with the car off it was between 12-13 car on is was about 14 ish. Thanks for you help guys

I guess we were all concentrating on your 28v situation and overlooked an obvious question... Exactly how old is your battery?
