not sure how much they cost actually. i traded in my 803's for these straigt trade so i would say between 6-7000.
my understanding of electrostatic speakers is that the larger the actual panel the lower the frequency they can produce. the ones i got have a 4ft x 1ft panel and are crossed over at 280hz. i couldnt imagine the ones for the car being that large and would still need a midrange and midbass driver. do you have a link to any of those products?

well after having them for a few days now i can sort of give a review on them.
Pros
1.) the overal tonal balance of the speaker is great very smooth sound nothing harsh or any resonance at all. They image fantastic, better than the nautilus 803's. maybe its partly psychological because the actual speakers are see through, but they almost seem to disappear when you play anything. so far the best focus i've heard so far from any speakers.
2.) They're rather lightweight speakers when compared to the B&W's that i've owned in the past. This makes it great for adjusting the positioning a small amount.
3.) The supplied floor spikes are very solid and are height adjustable so you can control the vertical dispersion of the ESL. I found these very useful because i have a rather low seating position and a somewhat low ceiling.
4.) the overall look of the speaker. <---pretty self explanitory
Cons
1.) the length of the AC cord supplied. they're about 10 feet or so which with my current positioning isn't quiet long enough for both speakers. right now i've just got a cord running accross the room infront of everything.
2.) The bass response isn't quite as good as the nautilus 803's. I dont think its an issue with lack of power because each of the 10" subs are have their own channel on the amp that puts out 360W at 4 ohms. it definately plays very deep but there jsut seems to be a hollow point between teh upper midbass and where the ESL comes in. This could change wiht difference positioning and a good souce component but only time will tell. i may get a pair of their small subs to put behind the speakers to cover the subbass.
3.) essentiall the ESL is a bipolar speaker so when you have them throwing sound into the center of a room they're also putting out sound directly behind the speaker which will expose the need for proper placement with room treatment. you definately can't have these right up against a wall without some kind of absorber directly behind it.
overall i'm very happy with the trade in. They're fantastic speakers for the price and i dont think you'll find anthing that images quite like the electrostatics for the price or even more. I'm still waiting to hear the wilson alexandria's though. i've always wondered what $120,000 speakers sound like.

I've never really been a big fan of electrostatic speakers. For some reason they seemed to "flat" to me. I spent a lot of time listening to high end audio, and the Martin Logans I listened to did nothing for me.
Unless they weren't set up properly (which could have been it), but they were using nice components with them.
Dunno, different people like different sounds.

can you provide anymore details on the setup? which speakers did you listen to? waht was the room size? what components used?
personally i dont think i'll go back to electromagnetic speakers until they have the transparency that these do.
