Default good system for the money?

2 10 inch Kicker L7's $420
1 US Acoustics USG2000D $279
1 Alpine CD9835 $419
1 Alpine SPS171A $130
Total is 1289 Shipped

I was told i do not need a amp to power my highs and mids but i already have a JL 300/4 if i want to use it. I was just wondering if this was a good deal and a good system. If not what should i change to keep it in the price range? I also already have a set of Eclipse 6x9 in the rear.

check ebay for that H/U of yours, i'm pretty sure ive seen some for like $325-350...it's an awesome unit though..

i think the rest of your prices seem alright - the sub and the amp i havn't really researched out - but for the price per watt should give you a good deal at $279

although the H/U has lots of power, it's still really only 23-25 watts per channel, if you have the amp for the mids and highs, i would strongly suggest you enjoy them! the jl 300/4 will give you some solid output - much more than your deck - although there is some debate about the rail switching methods the power supply uses the amp has good reviews.

Your headunit you could upgrade last in order to save some cash if you are using all external amps - the alpine 9835 is great, but, is it really worth $419 if your going external on the amps? I'm a poor university student - so i say - not yet.

Others can debate the "buy the headunit last" but from my perspective, all your power is cleanly delivered - you will however miss out on all the cool eq and crossover features, as well as some S/N and your path will be at a lower voltage assuming your using a cheap deck currently (aftermarket cheap).
