fuse keeps blowing for amp
i never had problems with fuses blowing before. I installed all my systems myself, with my most recent one being in there for 2 years. I took out my sub, leaving the amp and capacitor still in place for about a month, while I made a fiberglass box for a new system. While I am finishing up my project, I wanted to put my old sub back in, but in doing so, the fuses keep blowing. Ive gone through almost 10 fuses all the same size and 40A trying to figure out what it could be. I tried putting the fuse in without the sub, it blew. then disconnected the power wire from the amp, blew again. then disconnected the power wire from the capcitor (so its just basically just the power wire and the fuse only) and it still blew. Does anyone know what is the problem? what else should i try to do? what am i doing wrong? Thanks in advance
thats what i thought. i tried having the power wire connected to the battery, then the fuse holder then the rest of the wire, and the fuse still blows. is it suppose to do this?
Something is grounding the power wire. If you are 100% positive that the end at the amp/cap is not touching anything (tape it off if you have to), and you put a fuse in and the fuse pops, then you have broken through the insulation somewhere along the way, and the power wire is grounding. The area where it passes through the firewall is usually the culprit. Make sure you didn't pinch the wire anywhere.
As a side note, one thing that you should have done is discarged the cap, then recharge it when you reinstall it.
