Default finding OEM type wire?

Has anyone had any luck finding OEM style wire aftermarket? most wire at the auto parts stores is crap, I have never seen striped wire, or wire in more then 4 colors anywhere, I'm in the process of building a custom harness for my 86, I usually go to the yard and pull a harness form something late model, take it apart, and coil up the wire to build from, Got one from a Venture minivan today, half off day at the yard, so 12 bucks, tore the van to crap, it was already pretty trashed, so thats a LOT of wire, it would be nice though to be able to order a specific roll in a specific color or stripe. Connectors are easy, weather packs are available everywhere as well as mil spec connectors

We do the same thing, Dave WARD Auto Electric, wire gut PicknPull cars for the color coded wiring we need.

Color coded wiring is available, but is cost prohibitive for what we do.

We also make our own "tracers", we made a "holder", it will hold a Sharpie and we drag the wire, [Pico] through the holder putting a tracer on the lead.

The above gets us pretty much any color/gauge/tracer we need.

Gutted OEM wiring gets us any color/gauge/tracer we need for an exact match for repairs and extensions, [wire tucks]. 94

well I lucked out today, got a day job cleaning up at a construction site, and was given a bunch of elevator control wire, the kind with the really high quality flame and weather resistant insulation, comes in bundles of 20, with each wire numbered individually. this is perfect for wiring my alarm as well as the voice warning box, wiring is similar to mil spec wire for aircraft but the insulation is twice as thick, stuff is designed to last forever
