Default Fiberglass Enclosure

Okay, i would like to make a fiberglass mount for 1 10" sub and a 6.5" 2-way to cover my back seats. I have a 92 prelude. My questions are:
1) What exactly are the supplies to use (and where do i get them)?
2) Would this type of enclosure sound good? (i'm thinking i need to port it)
3) I know i need to have a lot of time to finish this, but what kind of money am i looking at spending on this?

thanks.

1. Fiberglass resin and catalyst. Buy the bigger gallon size to save money. Fiberglass cloth, matting. Sandpaper, bondo. Possibly MDF depending on design. All these are available aIt Home Depot and Pep Boys.

2. It will sound good if done right.

3. I would guess close to $100, depends on how big and what kind of covering, Paint, vinyl, carpet, etc. Lots of time and sanding.

1. Fiberglass resin and catalyst.
What exactly would you consider to be a catalyst in this mixture? Any material that works better than another?

If you buy the gallon, it will have a plastic lid used for mixing, and insdie the lid it comes with some catalyst, usually a clear squeeze tube with clear fluid in it.. You can also buy coloring agents to make it different colors.

Not to be rude or assume anything, but if you are asking these kinds of elementary questions about fabrication, are you sure that you are ready to get started on a project like this?

I would highly suggest that you go to the fabrication forum on sounddomain.com. I have not been there forever, but if you find anything written by MPipes after searching for fiberglass - treat it as your bible. Do some research before you get started.

Contrary to what seems to be popular belief, fiberglassing products are fairly expensive, and you can do some serious damage to both your car and yourself with them.

BTW, catlyst goes by a few other names, mainly hardener and MEKP

Let me tell you about fiberglass. It sounds like you will get in trouble with it for sure. There is alot to know and even more things to mess up. You need to start on small items before doing something really big. To build and entire subwoofer enclosure from fiberglass is going to cost well over $100 in materials if you want to so it right. Paint alone will cost you that much. Resin is $25 a gallon for cheap stuff.

Alright- so i will make a couple molds of something small, and see how that turns out. And judging from the outcome of that, i will either try again to make something small, or work up to building my original idea. I've been through what seems like a novel of literature regarding how-to and to be honest, i still feel fairly confident that i am able to do this well if i follow the correct mixing and curing procedures. If you have any more helpful advice it would be greatly appreciated. thanks

didnt see anyone list this..

youll need something to keep it from sticking to trunk.. if thats where youre doing it.. you want your box to be removable..

yea, tin foil and such.

however.. im not doing the trunk, i am using the space where the bucket of the seat used to be as a sub enclosure, and a raised area of the upper seat pad to house my rear 6.5"s. tough to explain, maybe ill post some scans of my sketches.
