Factory security system is acting up
Please help!! The factory alarm on my 02 Accord coupe has been going off recently. Sometime the system would armed when i locked the doors with the remote and other times it won't. When I pressed the lock button on my remote, the lights doesn't blink but when I pressed the unlock button the lights blink normally. The remote seems fine to me so I don't think it's the problem. The times when it does armed, the horn and lights would go off immediately without me doing anything to it. What could be causing it to do that? It goes off in the middle of the nights and my neighbors are complaining about the noise. I'd appreciated any help anyone can give me.
Also, is there a fuse for the security system that I maybe could disable and is there any where to lower the volume of the horn when it goes off??
Thank you in advance!!

I believe when the oem alarms do not arm it is because there is a zone open, [hood, trunk/hatch or doors] maybe you have a faulty switch someplace.
Yes there is a fuse, should be in under dash fuse box or AUX fuse box.
To lower the volume of the horn, stuff a rag in it, or just unplug the horn at the horn.

Just what I was thinking... But then I started to wonder if one was so inclined, could they install a variable resistor or potentiometer inline on the positive lead to lower the volume? I'm sure that by doing so, you'd be changing the pitch and sound of the horn as well, but I'm sure it could be done...

All zones were closed when I armed the system so maybe the faulty switch is a possibility.
Is the fuse for the security system labeled STS? I found that on the driver's side fuse panel and don't know if it's the one.
I don't want to disconnect the horn because I would still like to have use of it. Just wanted to lower by a few decibels so it doesn't sound so horribly loud..lol

Your sure it's not SRS, I don't know what STS is?
Check the hood pin and trunk/hatch switch, [in the latch] if the interior, [dome] light is going out the doors are ok, if trunk/hatch light goes out, [when lid is shut] it's ok, you can unplug the hood pin and see if its the problem, [see if alarm will arm and not triggered.
The other possibilities are there is a short in the trigger wires, if it's the door pin- switch wires the dome light will stay on, if it's the trunk/hatch switch wire the trunk/hatch light will stay on, there is no light for the hood, so that one would be harder to check, [need a multimeter] and last but not least is the alarm itself, it may just have gone west on you.
