Default Are Factory CD players CD-RW compatible?

I have a 1998 Accord with a single disk cd player. It plays store purchased CD's fine but it will not play anything I burn. I thought maybe I might need to buy a different kind a disk but didnt want to go buy different disks unless I know what to buy and if its worth trying at all. The disks that I am using are Memorex CD-R, 700mb, 80 Min, 48x speed. I have tried using the same disk in an older cd player in my home (circa - 1994) and it plays fine. I hope someone knows something about this topic Thanks.

Some headunits just play them better than others. The flagship Alpine 7949 model a few years ago used to skip a lot with CDR's but my old sony played them fine. Nowdays they all should have no problems so try a different deck, even most 1-3 year old used ones should be fine.

The only problem with this suggestion is that if I go out and buy another car stereo it will not be compatible with my steering wheel controls.

Are you converting to .wav files before burning?

also, what speed are you burning them at - burn one very slow - 4x or less and see if that works

Most likely your player will not play the CD-RW's. Some older radio's even had trouble with CD-R's. The reason is with the material used in the discs themselves. Pressed CD's use a material that is easier for the units' laser to pick up and read. CD-R's are harder to read because of the material they are made out of. CD-RW's are even harder... which is why even if your older unit can read CD-R's it may still have trouble with CD-RW's. You might be stuck with using CD-R's and pressed CD's
