It's going to be hidden. Thieves are not supposed to know it's there, so they're not going to be looking for it. Lo Jack isn't meant as a deterrance. It's meant to use your car as bait to catch thieves. At least you get your car back.
So it's $400? You're the first person to ever mention how much that **** costs. How much is the subscription?

One day a guy sauntered into our automotive shop. He'd been sitting on the curb for like 30 minutes just ******* around. So, He up and walks into the shop bay, Removes the keys for a 2003 infinity from the rack. Finds the car and drives off. The owner of the shop. (My dad) , Saw it happen and called the cops. They instantly flipped on the lojack and within about, oh..15 minutes had found the car. He'd gone a few miles down the street and was sitting in a parking lot of a 7-11. They rolled up behind him and busted his ***.
Just an example. If you'll notice on cop cars. You'll see there standard antennas. The ones that have the car-locating computer(Lojack) Have -FOUR- Additional antennes on the back in a square formation. They're about half the length of the larger antennas. Now I'm babbling. Just some useful info.
Btw, that car the guy stole? It belonged to a superior court judge
David.

I had my car stolen from a restaurant parking lot. I called the cops and they turned on my lojack and they found the car 30 minutes later. They didn't get the thieves but I got my car. The key is you gotta report it asap otherwise it might go out of range. It'll lower your comprihensive insurance too.

i hope you take my advice seriously.
i had lojack installed on other previous cars and understand that when the tech comes to you house to install it they are working on commission. meaning more work with other home customers is what he/she is thinking when doing the installs. this means they will hide the box not in the most advance and hidden area.
my installer took only 30 minutes to place it under the center console. so if you do decide to go with lojack look at how long it takes the installer. i bet he is gone in about 30 minutes. and what does that mean.. well the box is in an area that only takes 30 minutes to remove and find.
i also made the installer tell me where it was located because after 30 minutes.. i wasnt not going to accept that as a hidden device.. i later spent 5 hours taking my dash out and hiding it well within the dash area.
so remember that all installers work on commission, and with all commissioned jobs. they will not place it in the best place...
also dealerships charge about 600+ (and yes they make a huge profit on it) and dont think having it installed at the dealership you will have it done any better...
i would have them install it. and tell them before they install it that you work on the car alot and you need to know where it is. and then i would let the car charge the box up for a day and then disconnect it and place it in an area that is not next to metal or has metal directly above it and expand the antennas along the upper door jam. if they dont want to tell you where the box is located (remembr ask them before work is done) tell them forget it and your not going to have it installed... but because they work on commission, i bet you they will tell you were it is, since the installer willbe passing up his commission... hopefully this helps.

Actually they don't work on commission and if you insist on wanting to know where it is then you need to tell the person you are ordering it from so that it can be said from the beginning that you won't be told. I guarantee you that if you order directly from Lojack that the installer that comes out does not get paid commision. If someone wants to know that bad then they can tear there car apart after the installer leaves. If they push the issue then the installer will just leave, again they don't care it is less work they have to do.
I also wouldn't recommend disconnecting it at all, not smart and will deplete the backup battery.
Also CXshoe, if you would pm me the last 6 digits of your vin I will go ahead and have something done about the installer that did yours.

well i guess the 5 lojack installers that i have met in the past 3 threes are all liars. like i said above i have had 3 lojacks installed and all were located in very easily to find locations. no lojack installer will install it where the owner wants it,(unless its pushed before the purchase, which means NO) and no lojack installer will sit there for 1-5 hours making sure its in a very hidden place. atleast all 5 that ive talked to didnt. maybe the ones in socal do it differently i dont know.
and once the box is charged up (drive it for about 1-3 hours is enough) you can take the wiring off and place it somewhere else. i know because due to the shotty installs i had to move it , and yes i did have it tested afterwards so it can be done. the reason why you say not to move it or touch it is because the locations of the box along with the vin# of the car is noted in the work order so when a customer get thes yearly check up done the next installer knows where it is. and can plug the wire in and have it tested.
im not steering you away from lojack, since i live in the city it works best due to the range and the coverage. you may not have the best coverage so make sure you ask about coverage in your area and how strong the signal is for that region.
but like i said get it and see how long it takes for the install, im sure you will be thinking the same thing "wtf your already done?"
and sorry i dont own the cars anymore, and i tested the lojack before i sold the cars so i know i didnt do anything wrong with the wiring.. i mean theres only two wires anyway...
