Default Engine Start

I have a 2K GSR... so the key is chipped. I wanna put engine start on my car, but I was told the only way to get it to work is to put a spare chip/key near the ignition key inlet. I don't really want to do that though. Does anyone know of another way to go about installing engine start?

try directed electronics part 555H its designed to learn and mimic the key signature so you dont have to giveup a key...it only works on remote start too.

it is like a remote control key (it mimics the key actually being in the ignition ONLY when the car is remote started) i will try to convince customers to have me destroy the key when we use this peice only because if your car is broken into and the box is found the key will be of no use to theives. the cost on this peice is around $50.

Thanks for the explanantion. Where do I get this thing? And does that mean that someone can just stick a key in the ignition and start it, since the frequency or so from the chip is obsolete?

Now I am confused.... ..the learn types modules ( 555L,555H,555C..etc) are just that modules...and they only work upon remote start..there is physically no key imbeded inside..like the 555U..so even if the modules were found how could a crook start the car...pieche help me out with this one? Maybe you know something I dont...

you are talking about the transponder piece? that is what i am talkin about. when i use it i usually cut the key or grind the grooves off, so the key cant be used in the key cylinder. i havent used the dei pieces very much since leavin best buy 3 years ago, the shop i am at is an astroflex dealer so we usually use their pieces unless we run out of them then we order dei ones.

okay it makes sense....i havent done that in years....I have broken off so many keys in the past...I guess it depends on the shop owners and how much they want to invest in parts....man sounds kinda dark ages doesnt it. I can see doing it with the 555U....but know with the learn types..the module can mimic the signature without sacrificing a key.

My friend's going to install this for me. He was talking about the black box thing, and how you are supposed to stick the key in the box (sawed off key etc). So are you talking about a box that has no key in it, and does that mean a key that is cut like mine without a chip in it can start my car? Thanks for your help, but it's still a lil sketchy to me.

lol...the "black box" learns your keys electronic signature and transmitts it to the ecm at the required time during remote start only. You dont have to give up a key but you do have to have both handy. The box is wired into the wiring at the colum...start the car with 1 key ,shut car off, start with 2nd key, shut off...remote start car...each time you start your car the system look for that valid signature in order to start. the module learns the valid signatures and transmitt it back to the ecu...so the car starts on remote start when no key is present. makes sense now.
