Electrical problem with my stereo (ebrake interference)
My stereo started acting really funny. When I engage or disengage my ebrake, the stereo makes a loud popping noise and the audio cuts out. It isn't the action of pulling the handle, but when the brake indicator light switches on and off. I'm running an alpine headunit and a clarion 4ch amp. Some of the wiring does go right next to the ebrake, but I dont think that's the problem (because of how I "fix" it... see last sentence of next paragraph).
Sometimes when I turn on the headunit with the brake down, it pops and I get no audio. Often turning the headunit off and back on fixes the problem. Today I couldnt get it to make any noise at all. Every time I turned the stereo on with the ebrake off it would pop and I would get no audio. I was able to get it to work by pulling the ebrake one "click" so that the ebrake light came on (but the brake wasnt actually engaged) and I had no problems.
I havent relly tried troubleshooting yet, but I really wouldnt even know where to start. I was hoping you guys would know the easy fix.
Thanks.
