Electrical Problem from hell EK HATCH
So my 96 Hatch is experiencing a problem with the audio.
I thought my headunit died and it wasnt the greatest so I decided to upgrade to a decent pioneer. The old headunit was on for a hour and then shut off and then driving again it turned on so i figured it over heated until it went off again and never returned. For the new head unit I made sure it worked fine by bench testing it and decided to install.
However I installed it and nothing worked. I checked #27 and #28 fuses under the dash for accessory and radio and they are fine. Went under the hood and the 7.5 for whatever it says is fine (cant remember exact name right now) theres only one more fuse for this biotch and thats on the headunit which i double checked and surely its good too.
So where to begin....I furtherly checked continuity of the constant and ignition wires in the harness and they have continuity so my guess is a faulty ground.....
oh and a side note the accessory cig plug doesnt work or the interior light but like i said the fuse is good.
Does anyone on the face of honda realm know what the heck to do next??????
my only next idea is run a direct ground wire from the headunit to the chassis and see if it works but that sounds sorta ghetto rigging.
please help me I hate electrical problems!!!

Did you check continuity of the radio harness ground? Did you make sure the harness is wired correctly from the car to the deck?
Some aftermarket head units have their own internal fuse.

ok so your cig lighter is not working, which is usually on the same circcuit as your hu's acc 12v supply. I have seen fuses appear to be good and were bad (usually this is with AGU's), so get a test light, put it on the ACC power for the head unit, turn the key to ACC and see if you have power, if not, then check at the fuse, if so, then you have a bad wire between the fuse holder and the harness at the head unit.
Fuse 47 - 7.5A, [hot at all times] in engine bay fuse box is the 12V constant for the HU, blue/white lead in stock radio harness.
Fuse 28 -10A, [hot in acc. and run] in under dash fuse box is 12V switched for HU, yellow/red lead in stock radio harness.
Test the fuses or install new or known working fuses, as mentioned, eyeballing them is not good enough.
Did your Civic have stock key-less entry?
If so, unplugging the stock HU will disable the dome light off the doors.
Do you have aftermarket speakers?
If so, make sure none of the speaker leads or speaker terminals are shorted to ground or each other.
Does the HU turn on at all and just no sound, or does it not even turn on?
Grounding the chassis of the HU to the cars chassis is a good idea, you may also want to run a fused 12ga lead from the batt. to behind the HU and connect the HUs 12V constant, [yellow] to it, instead of the stock radio harness 12V constant, [white/blue], the stock 12V constant can not supply the current needed by today's "high power" HUs.
Don't forget to cap off the stock 12V constant if your not using it. 94

keyless entry...no but i do have a cabin harness for a lx since i wanted power everything
aftermarket speakers...yes i do i will check the leads and terminals and see how they look tomorrow real quick
HU turns on bench tested, but not in car at all
changed 28 on the under dash fuse as i had an extra 10a left, still no go
didnt change the 47 yet. i will circuit test it since i have no 7.5a laying around
my problem is i dont get why it would work one day for an hour and then cut out and not work which leaves me with the thought of a crappy ground that gave out
what do you think i should do for interior light and accessory socket then?
update: decided to just replace all the possible fuses regardless of how they looked
used circuit tester all of them work fine, tested the socket for interior light and it works i just got to get a new bulb for that.
tested the blue white wire real quick on the harness it lit up......so my next step is to just ground the god damn wire from the head unit to the chassis and test that but f it im leaving for A.C. in 20 minutes.
