ED Sub blown
yea, sounds like some of you have been to circuit city and best buy a little too much!
JL 500/1 good amp, regulated power, FCM ^^^ gave the specs on it and its a propper match to that sub, i had an ED A series sub long time ago and a k series 15", i have always though it was a great sub and thought you couldn't beat a 5year warranty, though i have never blown one up, whats the deal with there customer service not wanting to warranty? i have never heard that before, and yes your sub is definately bottoming out, sounds like an enclosure problem, because .55 cu ft is on the bare minimum of sealed air space for that sub, sounds like there is another problem there, yea you can switch to a different sub and elimate the problem, one with a deeper bumped back plate is recommended, but i'm kinda curious whats up with ED, i almost bought a 900.1 and a A series sub they have been running a special on.

oh and i agree with the guy up above about the, xnay on the alpine subs, cause i see type x's blow alot, i had 4 alpine type s 12's, wasn't impressed, nor with type r's, too much on the sq side of a woofer for me, but then again i used to compete in usaci and i like the heavier stuff Distortion city, anti sq, ha
no no
Don't listen to these people man!
Alpine? you recommended alpine for a sub............leave this site at once!
Alpine makes good stereos and equalizers and thats it!
nah man
you want something good?something thats gonna last?
get yourself a Rockford Fosgate Punch sub
I dont know what your set up is but they got all kinds of subs!
2-4-8 ohms Single or Dual Coil
I'm probably gonna get attacked for this!
Hey I say Rockford,MTX, Kicker or JL Audio subs! QUALITY!!
Pioneer Kenwood Alpine Sony
all those brands suck hard when it comes to bass!

Most speakers/subs are not blown because they are overpowered but because they are underpowered, but not specifically because of the under-powering, the problem is over-driving the amp into constant clipping, [easier to do with an underpowered amp] it makes no diff. if amp is underpowered overpowered or an exact match for the speaker, if the amp is driven into constant clipping the DC output will burn things up, [like the tinsel wire on the spider] and drive the cone into over-excursion, [as indicated by the VC].
