dvc vs. svc subs
Sorry for the kind of dumb question, but which sub is better, a single voice coil one or a dual? What are the pros and cons of each? I want to get 2 10 inch orion xtrs, but I don't know which would work better for me. The amp I will most likely be using is a phoenix gold xs2500 if thats of any help. TIA
SVC pros: Simple wiring, avail 8 ohm coils (some brands) for running 2 subs at 4 ohms , can run 2 4ohm coils to 2ohms for amps capable of 2ohm operation
SVC cons: lower overall power handling, difficult to wire more than 2 subs (less wiring options)
DVC pros: multiple coil ratings avail (4,6,8) Capable of running multiple subs 2+ and keep a 2ohm or even 4 ohm load with 3+ subs....JL audios have 6ohm coils for instance, allowing 3 subs to run at 3 ohms (less amp heat). Single DVC sub can be run in stereo... Greater power handling
DVC cons: generally a slightly heavier sub, more complicated wiring is possible (that's a pro and a con)
Those are the typical pros and cons..... DVC is normally a better choice, but not a necessary one... SVC can pound just as hard in most cases...
