double MDF necessary?

Default double MDF necessary?

i was told by the local shop that if i plan to make a sealed enclosure for a 12" jL w7... i must get [3/4 x 2] which is 1.5inch thick MDF wood to build my enclosure?

Just get 1 inch MDF. That is more than suffucient for that sub. If you are doing a sealed enclosure, just make sure that you resin the inside of the box to prevent air leakage.

i prefer using fiberglass resin (no glass) with a paint brush.

Also don't forget to predrill the speaker mounting holes all the way through the 1" MDF, [or you will "flake" out pcs, of MDF at every screw hole] a little silicon on the screw before you put it in will make it airtight 94

see what you really want is to make a box that's 2 1' MDF with about 1/2 of space between them before you put on the face, pour in some cement... lol

you dont have the double 3/4 mdf the box, im an installer and build a lot of boxes for 12 & 13w7's, and what i do is build the box out of normal 3/4" MDF and double up on the face of the box (the board that the sub mounts to) if you make precise cuts, and liquid nails or caulk up the box really good, you will not have any trouble running 3/4" MDF...
