Custom NSX install
Here's the conclusion of my project in my NSX - What do you think guys?
http://www.nsxprime.com/forums...unt=1
All fabrication (except the tweeter mounting rings) & installation was done by me - this is my first project of this nature & I'm pretty satsified with how it turned out. The sub box was the first fibreglass construction project I've ever done & that was particularly satisfying.
The main thing is it sounds really good!

What happen with the CDT speakers? Did you not like them?
Nice job on the box still working on mine, for an entire year now. LOL to many projects.>> Finally just got my RH M5's powder coated.
Nice Job! Is the center console Craig's or a factory rebuilt.
How hot does the amp get in that location. I have a Taitec exhaust and that area gets pretty hot on it's own.

Care to tell me where the weakness is in equipment selection? Perhaps you would have a different preference - bit it's hard to get "a lil better" then Tru (especially the C7), Lotus comps, and the rest of it - all of it is top notch sq gear.
Nice job on the install.

Just read it what was the end result? You mentioned it helped but it was still hot. I'm think of taking the old shield and making it work on the new exhaust or just building my own heat shield. The air space between the stock exhaust and heat shield is what keeps the heat from transfering to the trunk.

The air space between the stock exhaust and heat shield is what keeps the heat from transfering to the trunk.
Remember there are a couple of heat-shields in the stock set-up: there is the panel that fits under the tool-well (that had the blanket fitted to) and there is a heat-shield on the stock muffler (which is obviously gone now)
The later update where I isolated the back of the heat shield plate from the part with the adhesive blanket made a big difference. I also installed some fiberglass insulation in the cavity between the topside of the well and the bottom of the amp mounting panel. It is conceivable that you could also stuff the cavity between the bottom side of the tool well and the heat shield with insulation.
Finally I mounted a 120mm fan on the trunk vent flap (right inner fender) pulling "out"; I made an intake vent on the left side of the floor just below where the antenna resides. So I have a cross-flow across the trunk creating a regular air exchange.
Collectively, it's all working very well to keep things at a much cooler temperature.
We are going to install in another one locally - I'd like to get a pyrometer so I can get a before & after read.

really though, i thought about going with a lotus setup or ID horns, but then i found out about new utopia beryllium coming out next year. so now im going to stick with my polyk's until then.
i was at the focal/audison product training recently, according to jesse mckindley, the new utopias are still in production at the moment.
the coolest feature that i heard about are the bluetooth passive crossover networks. the tuner can sit in the driver seat and use a bluetooth enabled palm pilot to adjust the crossover settings. i thought that was pretty cool.
another cool thing on hand at the training was the new Audison Thesis HV Venti. with a $8000 retail price, i dont think its worth it at all.
i took a few pics with my phone, but i dont think anyone really cares to see it. if someone does, speak up. i will post them.
with only 2 left in north america, someone who is into rare things should pick it up. one guy in canada bought 6 of the 8 available at retail price. thats $48,000 folks. crazy guy.

They have existing beryllium drivers - but they are MEGA expensive. Nick Wingate's bug had stuff in there, and he sold it, then it was parted out - extrememly expensive stuff IIRC. So are they developing a new version of it?

focal/JM Lab was the first time i heard of the beryllium ever. never even heard of the freaking thing. anyway, it is probably expensive because of production cost. and because it sounds so good its worth it? who freaking knows why the grande utopia be is $100k.
at the training, they broke down the whole Focal factory for us. there is a special room or building (forgot which one it was) for beryllium tweeter production. reason being that beryllium in its natural form is toxic, so they have people in crazy suits working with it. i think that might be a big factor.
wut do u mean by new version of it? well, as far as the new utopia, i dont know jack. they dont even really know. i spoke to jesse mckindley during our break, and he says that its still in production, nothing is really set, the only thing for sure is, beryllium tweets. possible things... bluetooth, possibly new cone and possibly fully tuneable crossover so u can choose ur own crossover points.
i asked him if it can be seen at CES, he said "not sure, but they will be released in 2005 for sure. oh yea, price has not been determined yet. i hope its not above $3,000. my dealer cost will still be about $1600
.
i think that with diamond audio has plans to make a TDX component set. that for sure will have a $2k-$3k price tag. but then again, i also learned at training that the new polyk's have the same cone as the current W cone(utopia) just with the yellow aramid over to keep the same polykevlar name. so with that said, im guessing that they might price the new utopias at some crazy *** price. like the rainbow reference. who knows.
CES 2005 should be better than last years, i thought CES 2004 kinda sucked.
the only reason i would go this year, is to see TDX components(if released), focal Utopia Be(if released), ARC's new line(if released), TRU Technology demo car(if they even have one, last year they didnt), Resonant Engineering, Elemental Designs(if they even exhibit, last year they did not), probably Image dynamics(if i can even find them this year) and watch Morel of Israel get down with Morel (i forgot wut morel is called, the one that has the renaissance line).

i wish i saw that post about the DENON DCT-Z1. i would have picked it up. i recently dropped about a grand for some more arc stuff. im changing my setup and it would have been nice to replace my RFX-8250 with the DENON piece.
i heard about them earlier in the year in the grande utopia, but i meant before focal even made them. so is focal/jmlab the only company who makes beryllium tweets? i know u can buy them seperate from the Be series home units. so thats probably how they acquired the tweets.
