current leak (head unit)
Hi guys,
i'm driving an EG4 (1991) and have a problem with my audio system.
1) Sony explode head unit
2) 2 front splitters
3) 2 front speakers.
there's a current leakage from the audio system. ( i unplugged the audio, and check the voltage/ current in series with the battery with the engine off...read ~13v....plugged the headunit back in...did the same series check...read ~11.5v ..dropped in voltage)
is the method wrong to check leakage?
My car dies if its left unstarted for 2-3 days. I did the same test to my gauges...and it reads 13v when plugged when engine is off....
correct me if wrong method is used..and a solution...
maybe rewire the whole thing. Apparently, there must be constant power given to the headunit for memory. But i don't think it's strong enuff to "suck" up all the power in 2-3 days huh?
Chock

Does the CD player turn off when the car is turned off. Is there anything else hooked up to that circuit. Usually the cigarette lighter is as well.
You are measuring voltage not current. To measure the current draw you need to put the meter inline on the circuit, not parallel like you are when measuring voltage.
