Default Cool Trick

tell me if you heard this one,
have someone call your cell phone, answer it, hold it up to your drivers door.
now the person on the other end can use your keyless entry to operate your car remotely. It works through the phone
cool or what?

Bullshit.

Your keyless/alarm works on RF. First of all, a home telephone converts audio (voice) into electrical voltage and sends it down the phone line. Then, to put it simply, that audio (electrical voltage) is converted to RF and sent out through a cell tower... Your cell phone converts that RF to audio that you hear in your ear. There is no possible way that the RF signal will go through a phone line, through the phone company's switches, through a cell tower and remain intact to operate your locks.

Whoever told you that nonsense is full of crap.

It says right on that page that they couldnt get it to work when they tested it. I say its crap for the majority of people. Im sure someone somewhere got it to work. But it is not an everyday occurnce.

No they didn't. If you knew anything about how RF and phones work, you would know that it's impossible.

It would work if, let's say remote range is 50 ft, and you use the cell phone "trick" and open the car from 75 feet. You're extending the transmitter's antenna by using the cell phone. This is the same as putting the remote under your chin, and having it work from farther away. I know for sure that the latter works, so putting it up to a cell phone should be the same concept.

What's in bold I have tested. That's how I know it works.

More bullshit. A cell phone operates on a frequency of 800mhz-1.9Ghz (depending on carrier). Your alarm transmitter operates on a frequency of 400Mhz (or lower). Therefore, even if the cell phone had the ability of operating like a 2-way radio repeater, it wouldn't transmit (or receive) that remote's signal as it's out of the cell phone's operating frequency range.

Therefore, this whole thing is a fallacy, and impossible.

I didn't say that the cell phone would transmit the signal. I just said that the cell phone would act as an antenna, slightly increasing the transmitter's range.

have you performed this test in a controlled environment?

We did, [as controlled as we could make it] we tried it on 4 staff cars with Alpine, 2 DEIs and a Compustar, [1way] none worked by "transmitting through" the cell phone, [myth busted] however 02 accord is correct, all but the Compustar would have more range if remote was held up to cell phone, but not more the 10' or so, all 3 had more range when held to your chin, my Alpine, as I said got about 10' more with the cell phone but about 30' more using my chin.

We tried this in the mall we are now at, using 5 diff., [brands] of cell phones, from diff. directions with the phones on and off, [remote held up to phone] the results was about the same for all the phones.

Conclusions, through the cell phone does not work, and holding the remote to your chin works better then holding it to up to the cell phone but holding the remote up to the cell phone did extend the range a little, as 02 accord mentions. 94
