can someone give me a list of what component speakers will work in a 96 prelude, without having to do custom fittings. on crutchfield.com the only component that comes up under 96 prelude is $199 JBL's. there has to be more that will fit.

Pretty much anything will fit. You will need to get some MDF and make a speaker mount ring. 3\4 mdf will provide about enough room for a 3" tall speaker to sit in there and wont rub the door panel or cause any problems.

Check into companies like adire audio, image dynamics, focal and RE audio for some nice component sets.
