Default Clifford sirens...interchangeable?

I've got an Intelliguard 700 that I got used off ebay w/ a bad speaker siren. If I remember correctly it's called the "Medallion." Now my question is would a "normal" siren (horn type) work w/ my output or am I stuck trying to find the medallion "speaker" type siren. Also would the Insignia siren work, or the ones off the Matrix series?

It wont work that way but you can hook a "normal" siren up to the yellow siren ouput wire of the 24pin connector. It is a negative out it can be programmed to be pulsed or constant out.

No, sorry you're stuck with needing the "speaker" style of siren. But actually that's a good thing because they're easy as **** to get. You're able to use an outdoor "PA" type loudspeaker, which although typically larger, will be louder...or any CodeAlarm with the "songbird" feature, such as the Ca-640 also uses a similar siren...another option is to get your hands on whatever POS cheap 6-tone generic siren, open it up, remove the audio driver board, and solder the power input wires onto the back of the driver, and reassemble it. All in all, there are SO many options to get you back working...

Was I told incorrectly that I cannot use a "horn type" siren using the yellow output wire? Do I need a relay to use that feature??

Added: BTW the medallion siren is NOT easy as **** to get......I only found 3 or 4 on ebay and not all of them may work w/ the older 700 intelliguard alarm...and several Clifford dealers in my area can't even get it.....

Hey, sorry it offended you...didn't mean to. I know you're trying to help me. But I was just trying to say that I have looked before and it was not that easy to find one. The place I did finally find the siren told me that I was lucky as hell to get one and it was their last one.......

Sorry for the misunderstanding....no harm no foul, right?

Sure...the main point I was trying to make though by my original post was that you can get away with using pretty much any speaker-style siren from any manufacturer. This makes your search a whole lot easier....

Well, you sure were right. Got a speaker type siren for 13 bucks (compared to a special order through al & ed's for the clifford at 70 bucks!!)

Thanks for your help.

Another question..can I run multiple sirens without hurting the brain?

You can use the yellow wire I mentioned and use any siren you want. If you connect more then two sirens to the output of this yellow wire I would recommend hooking a relay up to it, then you can connect as many as you want.

Great, glad I could help...you'll be able to use multiple sirens as long as you wire them in series (that is positive on one to negative on the other, then connect the remaining positive and negative to your output).

As for this talk about the yellow wire, pin23 of the connector..I'm of the understanding that it's an assignable ground output, and when configured as "siren" it simply provides a grounded alarming output...this is ideal for activating a power window module, or *additional* siren, but it's not going to give you the chirps and whatnot that the speaker style siren gives you. Clifford did it this way for a reason...using the yellow wire is for accessories, not your primary siren.

Cheers

Why would you connect a 12 volt siren in series? You now have to split the voltage among the two. I would not hook them up this way. Also if one siren goes bad or one is disabled then none of them will work. That just doesn't make any sense at all.

I don't rember how the actual chirp sounds on this output. I know there is still an ouput. There is no reason it couldn't be used as the only siren. Standard sirens are a dime a dozen. For someone that doesn't want to buy a cliiford siren it would work fine.

You wouldn't run a 12 volt siren in series. Multiple 12 volt sirens would be installed parallel with one-another driven by a relay. You would run a speaker style siren in series, however as to not overload the output. I'm done with this thread...

That still makes no sense you would reduce the ouput of both sirens the power going to each siren would be halved. It also increases your odds that your alarm can be disabled. All the thief has to do is have access to either of the two sirens wires and he disables both sirens in one shot. The more you strung together the lower your output would be and the chances of being able to disable them goes up with every siren you add in series.

Listen, he asked "can I run multiple sirens without hurting the brain?" and I answered him. Note than CAN and SHOULD are not the same thing. You're making something out of nothing. This doesn't need to be a philosophical discussion of the intricacies of alarm installation, please drop it.
