Default CD player not working

Bout my 92 LS last week, and my uncle gave me his cd player with it, it is one of the flip face cd players but it doesnt work, sometimes the face flips sometimes it only flips half way and other times not at all. And when it does flip it doesnt work, how can i decide if it is the car electronics or the cd player that is junk. Im dumb when it comes to this type of stuff.

Although make & model of the player would help, there's nothing in the vehicle wiring that would cause that problem.

its a Kenwood KDC-9017. Do all cd players have the same plug to plug into the car, or do different brands have different plugs for each car, cause if i go out and buy a new cd player i dont want to have to rewire everything, cause the one in there now was wired not just one of those plug and play deals.
thanks

No. If the current CD player is hardwired, then you will need to cut the old harness out & wire in the new one.

Or, you could purchase a reverse harness and wire it in like it was from the factory, and then purchase the regular harness to wire to the new deck...

What kind of car? If the radio sits at too much of an angle with the dash, the face might not flip down.

If its a motorized MASK face, its probably in need of repair.
