Default Car Alarm Remote Issue... help!

Hi everyone. Today my car alarm remote stopped functioning, and I don't think I can unlock the car manually without the alarm going off. What is the best way to diagnose this problemm? I'm thinking I should pop the hood and disconnect the battery as soon as I open the door, but I'm not sure how factory alarms are wired to the battery (or if they have backup batteries). I appreciate any advice and help, this topic is new to me. Thanks!

If it is an OEM alarm opening the door will trigger the alarm unless there is a switch in the door but turning on the ign. should turn off the alarm. 94
