Automatic Unlock
i had automatic unlock installed in my '99 F-150 yesterday and now my doors will barely lock and unlock. I have to press the lock button 3 or 4 times before it will lock completely. I've never had this problem. The kid at the counter say the motors in both my door needs to be fixed. Is this kid pulling my chain or has anyone else had this problem?
Are you talking about power door locks?
Did you have power door locks and you just added key-less entry or did you install power door lock motors, [actuators], or have someone else install them?
If you installed actuators are they OEM Ford actuators or aftermarket?

yes, power door locks
I have power door locks and I just added key-less entry to my truck. Just called the car audio place. They set me up for another appointment

Did you have power door locks before you added the key-less entry or did you get the power door lock actuators installed at the same time?
If the actuators were done at the same time then it should be a warranty issue.

Did they work properly before you had the key-less entry wired in?
Also, you said. "now my doors will barely lock and unlock. I have to press the lock button 3 or 4 times before it will lock completely." are you talking about the key-less entry remote or the stock power door lock switch?
A 99 Ford F150 with power door locks but without key-less entry uses a type "C", [polarity reversing] system, two SPDT relays are needed when adding key-less entry, it sounds like they may have miswired something.

both key-less entry remote and stock power door lock switch.
I meet with them today at 4pm.

Well I met with the car audio place the other day and they are for sure that i have to replace my door lock actuators. I was wondering if anyone has experience with replacing these and what might the difficulty level be?
Ummmm, kind of strange that they worked OK before the key-less was installed and now they do not, but even stranger is that both the door lock actuators went at the same time.
A 99 F150 uses a Type C door lock system, "polarity reversing" a pr of SPDT relays would have had to be installed, [unless the relays are built into the key-less entry module].
Either way it sounds to me like something is miswired.
The door lock actuators are not that hard to replace, this is what they look like... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWD1V there is a left and a right side.
The first thing I would do is unplug them and test them and the "plugs", you will need a multimeter to test the plugs, to test the actuators all you need to do is supply a ground to one of the terminals and 12V+ to the other terminal, it makes no diff. which way you do it other then one way will lock them the other way will unlock them.
To test the plugs you will need the multimeter, both terminals should test as grounds, [system at "rest"] when you rock the door switch to lock one terminal will stay a ground and the other will be 12V+ for as long as you hold the switch, when you rock the switch the other way the ground and 12V+ will reverse, release the switch and both terminals will be grounds again and when you rock the switch the other way the the other lead will become 12V+ for as long as you hold the switch.
I recommend you test the actuators first, if they work normally when you supply power and ground to them directly then the actuators are not the problem.
I use my Makita 9V drill batt. to test door lock actuators, if they will work with 9V there is nothing wrong with them.
