Default The Auto-Bolt

Does anyone here own or have experience with an auto-bolt? I'm considering getting one but I'm wondering how useful it would be. Also I'm wondering can it be hooked up to my current alarm to arm and disarm so I don't need to carry around an extra remote.

I have installed dead bolts and they are a pretty good layer along with a properly installed alarm, however they do not prevent a crock from climbing in the window that they just broke.
Yes, you should be able to use an EXT output, [extra button on remote] from the alarm to control the dead bolts, or possibly the alarms door lock outputs or the alarms OEM alarm, [arm/disarm] outputs, I have not seen or used this particular product. 94

What dead bolts would you recommend?

While I think this is a good idea & product..I do have the defend the vehicle alarm aspect & other 'holes' I have found in the write up

http://www.theautobolt.com/

Intro: Real Truth

"Why are the same number of vehicles (with security systems) still being stolen every year even with all the advances in technology?"

I say that is a false statement!

Convenience Factor

It's a wonder they don't mention about the lack for the use of vehicle alarms..because most all good systems do with automatic passive arming instead of just a remote

Difficulty Factor

"The problem with difficulty is that once a security system has been on the market, the professional thief learns how to defeat that system rendering it less effective."

In reference to vehicle alarms, yes concerning factory alarms more than aftermarket alarms where you have the choice to install & hide

Risk Factor

"Quickly identify the installed alarm system by the sticker in the window."

I recommend not using the name brand stickers & just the red flashing LED

"No worries when the alarm goes off."

I say false..they have already been caught & found out

"No one has paid much attention to the audible alarm."

Not necessarily especially with multiple sirens, both inside & out along with strobes

"Get under the steering panel to disable the alarm."

Not with stealth install

* I do understand that they are trying to sell their product & will not say or are ignorant of some facts, but just wanted to clear the air of some of their propaganda. I do think it is a good product though & can be useful

A write-up would be great but I understand if you're trying to keep it a business secret. How much do you usually charge for the fabrication and installation?

83customcivic, I wouldn't make this my only defense but as another layer. True they could just crawl in the window, throw it on a tow truck, or push it but I'm hoping that the inconvenience of trying to get into the car would deter them enough to go on to an easier target.

Custom fabrication can be expensive, at the time we were doing this there was no "commercial" dead bolt available for cars, cost would depend on car. 94

I agree with you. I am just challenging the claims in their write up about security in general, especially concerning vehicle alarms.

Another thing in the TV story report.. The reporter at the end of the segment say's the old familiar saying about.."If they really want your car, they will get it."

I have been in the security field for so long now & know of so many overkill ways of security that the only way they will get it is when it comes down to a confrontation & you let them have it. That is of course if you are in the vicinity.

One of the best wireless electronic motion security devices that I have found to be effective before they reach your vehicle or even to detect a tow truck before they lift it & pull away is this:

Driveway Patrol

http://www.asseenontvguys.com/index....PROD&ProdID=51

* One of the reasons I can be so confident in them not getting the vehicle successfully, but it relies on you or someone close to hear it & keeping the battery new. If you hide the motion good & are quick on your feet to respond, they will get caught..maybe before any damage occurs!

Thanks 83customcivic. I'm going to be buying one of these soon for my home. The reason I'm looking at all these different styles of auto security is because from my car to my job it's a 7 minute walk leaving it at a low foot traffic, non-residential area, football field area. I'd love to be able to drive to work.
