Well, the lights dimming is voltage, or lack of. At idle the alt. is putting out little voltage and thats when you will notice voltage drops (dimming lights, etc). For testing the amp, remove the speaker lead from the amplifier and see what it does, if it goes into protect with the sub disconnected, you most likely have a amp issue. Let us know what you find.

Meter the voltage at the battery with the car on and off to see if there is any voltage change. Also meter the voltage from the alternator to see if it is putting out 14v. If everything checks out fine my guess is that you may have a bad amp.

will heres some parts you need to add. Add a cap. Cap are mesured in frad 1 frad for every 1000 watts. Doing this also reqiured you to charge your battery cause u had ran the battery close to low enough to drive not enough to work alot of electronics. Your putting to much strain on the altnator happened to me before cap is to pervent that to happen.

forget a cap. garbage imo. 1st do your big3(theres a sticky) if its still having severe voltage drops replace your batt. with a deepcell(kinetik, optima, ect.) then if you really wanna keep your volts up get a high output alt.
