Amp Comparison? Eclipse and Kenwood.
the Eclipse (XA1000) Car Audio Amplifier has caught my eye. I used to have a KAC-7201. I cant remember what it sounded like before(didnt seem bad) with my 2 infinity 10"subs but then i built 2 fiberglass boxes, put the new(when i got them) 1042w subs. I had them both wired to 8 ohms and ran them in parallel, with the amp bridged. the specs for the KAC-7201 was 460wrms bridged.
When i had the 10's hooked up they sounded ok on some songs but didnt sound too good on others. I took the amp back on my warranty to Circuit City because the amp wouldnt turn on(took it apart and saw a broken trace that overheated and flaked off) So i am looking at getting a new amp, upgrading from what i had before.
What does everyone think of the Eclipse (XA1000) Car Audio Amplifier?
Does anyone else reccomend any other amp by kicker that would work better?

The JL 500/5 is one of the best amps out IMO. I would consider that since you are going for sound quality. I just installed that into my Teg and it was worth every dollar I spent. But what are you running for components?

Their new stuff? No. I rock an eclipse cd player from a couple years ago and it's certainly not top of the line, but it's better than almost anything readily retail available.
You can realistically spend 5 grand and up on a 2 channel amp if you want, but most people can't/won't budget that.

the actual speakers i have are Alpine type-r 6.5 components up front that were from a few years back(the tweeters are in the factory holes where the 2dr car tweeters are) powered by the alpine MRV-T320 amp. i also have alpine type r 6.5 coaxials on the rear deck ran off of the alpine headunit. (CDA-9807)

im wanting to get an amp that circuit city has because i can get a discount on it from employees...and i also have that giftcard that i got from how much i paid for the kenwood amp that i could put toward the discounted amp
is kicker or eclipse better?
Im thinkin either the Kicker ZX-750.1 Mono Channel Amplifier

or the
Eclipse Class D Mono Channel Digital Amplifier (XA1000)

the only thin iv read about the eclipse amp is that it cuts the frequency off at 50 hz so no muic is played below 50hz...idk if thats true

Isnt MONO the best way to go for subwoofers?

Ive used a couple of the mono amps and they were ok I guess. And I wasnt to impressed with the XA1000 when I heard one in a EG. But then again the installer could have screwed that one up. If CC has Pioneer and MTX I would go with an amp from their line up but thats just me.
i used to run a shop that sold eclipse, i got rid of that line asap. no one liked it, none of the installers, or the salesmen. if you want a good kenwood , go with an excelon amp. the kicker amps are good as well as the mtx amps. the pioneer is ok if your on a tight budget, it would not be my first choice though, as they are a more entry level amp. whoever said the jl amp is good is also correct. now im sure it'll **** off asol but thats my opinion on eclipse, sorry. but please keep in mind the quality of sound will have alot to do with the installation. so it doesnt really matter which one you pick as long as it will suit your needs, and you pick a reputable manufacturer.(even if it is eclipse
, sorry asol had to do it) and please keep in mind i have not said anything is wrong with eclipse, we just didnt like dealing with them, but they do make good products. anyway what else does cc sell.

I won't deny it, eclipse decks are/were a bitch to install/uninstall, but that being said, my eclipse CD8053 smokes everything my store carries (Alpine, Excelon, Pio premier, etc) and every other deck I've heard as far as sq goes.
My shop did last year's eclipse subs over and over and over and over again and the bass was always loud and toit (like a toy-ger). Granted their current stuff isn't as good as their old stuff, but still
As far as pissing me off goes, it takes a lot more than disliking something I like just to do so

Definately
I make sure all my installs in my car are 100% up to par with what I want(which is higher than most shops do it).
I just thought I would ask. Someone I know sells Eclipse amps at CC and said they are the fav amps but i did some research and their amps arent too good below 50hz...something to do with the crossover.
I want more than an entry level amp so I think I am going to go with the Kicker amp when I get a job there(fat employee discount:-)
Or is a 2ch amp bridged goin to work also? I havnt owned a mono amp before so i dont know if it would be better to have that or a 2ch amp(either bridged....or each sub running off of each ch)
Thanks for the help so far

As has been mentioned, Eclipse is not what it used to be, we also carried Eclipse and I was impressed with their HUs and speakers, [I have 4, 7 year old, 6.5" 2ways in my 94LS still going strong] however I am not a fan of their amps, we dropped the line because of the amp problems.
Go with the Kicker amp, even a MTX amp is better IMO then the Eclipse.
Also, what is the make and model of the subs? Even the Alpine SWE-1042 is a 250W sub, you have 2 of them for a 500W continuous power handling setup, [if you have the Alpine subs]
The Eclipse amp is 480W into 2 ohms, [a tiny bit underpowered] the Kicker is 750W into 2 ohms, [a little overpowered] but gain can be turned down a bit, and is a far better amp then the Eclipse, if for no other reason then the extra 270W.

The Kicker amps are good cheap amps. I have 2 the zx650.4 and the zx700.5
I have the the 700.5 in my boat powering two 12's and 4 mids. Sounds decent, and fan cooled.
Build quality is low but performance is average. I bought both amps used for $150 each.

well i install both these amps at circuit city, and the kicker amp is always far more popular than the eclipse. personally i like the kicker much more as well due to how they are so underrated and will blow the eclipse amp out of the water s.p.l wise. but if you are going for clairity i would go with the eclipse since it does always seem to hit with a crisper/tighter bass.

have you heard of the eclipse amp not playing frequencies below 50hz? I heard on a few reviews of the amp that it doesnt play the really low notes below 50hz
