I have mine set to off. Seems too muddy up the music but I havent messed with it enough to say its better or worse but for my setup it sounds better switched off.

I have it, and it's always Off, seems too bassy/not enough treble when i have it on. What's the meaning of MX Mode? What's it use for?

i keep mine switched on for fm and sirius and off for bassy cd's.....seems to "brighten" up the music a bit, but then again i'm using no external amps to power my four-channel system

yo EBP_SI i got the same deck as you (7995). that makes you cool too. how much you get your deck for? whats the setup function that toggles between CD-DA and CD-DA/MP3 do? do you know? the manual doesn't even mention it.. hmmm... i wonder. does your deck ever turn on and off rapidly sometimes like mine? mine does, but as soon as i detach the face and put it back on it stops. i think it has something to do with the pins that connect the face to the unit. i dont know. nice killer deck i love mine a whole lot which you can obviously tell since I'm messenging you with this reply only because you have the same deck as me. ALPINE on my friend..

no thats not it. thats what i automatically assumed at first but when i left it to CD-DA by itself it still played my mp3 CDs. the mystery lives..

for the most part, the MX feature tends to over process most CD's, making them sound less clear unless the songs were encoded at a low bitrate....

If you have ever been running a processor with a clipping indicator you would be amazed how badly mx will clip a signal even at low listening levels.

IMO it overprocesses the signal by a ton!

Ever since I got my 7998, I have left it on. I guess I should try to mess with the settings with the MX off.
