Alpine Type-S or Type-E 10"
I have a few questions. Also looking for suggestions/comments on possible sound.
1. Is there THAT big of a difference between the s and e subs?
2. Im looking at the Alpine MRV-F450. Would the sub channel on that efficiently push either either of the above listed subs?
3. If I were to go with the type-s sub would it be possible to push the dvc version with the MRV-F450?
4. Also would the MRV-F450 push (4) SPS-170A's?
5. I guess this would be my last question if everything else is approved... Would (4) SPS-170A's and a 10" sub sound good powered by the mrv-f450?

Go with the type-s if you use that amp, because your only pushing 150w. Your speakers sould be pushed nicely, but don't expect to feel it in your chest. The way it sounds depends on the install. You can buy the best equipment and make it sound like *** with a garbage install. Take your time and do it right the first time, it's cheaper, forget about easier.
Hopefully I can help you with these answers:
1. Type S or Type E? They are almost the same kind of subwoofer, except that the Type S has a few more features that the Type E...like a heat transfer case, 8ga. push terminals, a computer optimized magnetic circuit, etc. I say spend the extra money and get the Type S, but if you really want power get the Type R's.
2. The MRV-F450 is a good amp. But it all depends on what you want to do with the amp. For the subs you want to run, I would use the MRV-T420. It has more power and will make the subs sound better. You can use this amp to run either one or two subs.
3. Like I stated above, use the MRV-T420 for the Type S. If you want to get the Type R sub(s) use the MRD-M300 for 2ohm subs and use the MRD-M500 for 4ohm subs.
4. The MRV-F450 is, IMO, a perfect amp for the SPS-170A's.
5. Use the MRV-F450 to push the 4 SPS-F170A's, and get the MRV-T420 for the Type S sub. It will be more expensive, but if you want to go this route you will be more happy with the sound you will get.
I know this was a little long, but I hope it can help you out.
Also, what deck are you going to use with this system? For the money, IMO, I would get the CDA-9813. Happy listening.

Money isnt really the issue. Id get the type-r subs, but I dont really want to run two amps. Im pretty much SET on the 5 channel. I know that the rms rating on the F450's sub channel is a little low for either the type-e OR type-s but im not looking for HUGE sound. Id really just like to replace the factory speakers and have a decent supplement. Right now i have 6.5's in the front and 6x9's in the back but ill probably make a plate to fit a 6.5 or 5.25 in the rear speakers locations.
