Default Alpine Type R speaker?

I recently bought Alpine Type R coaxial 6.5 speakers for my rear deck. I have type S in the door and they sound way louder and clear, but when i just have my Type R's on they sound muffled and not clear , My head unit is only a 35X4 kenwood, so should i get an amp for the rear and what size amp too?
