this doesn't work for the alpine's
you need to hook up a push button switch and a toggle switch. The toggle switch goes between the alpine's E-Brake wire and ground, and the push button goes between the alpine's Foot Brake wire and +12 volts. Then you have to follow the pattern listed in the alpine book. I really REALLY suggest you DO NOT do this though. If you do get pulled over and you were watching TV the fines can be as high as $100,000 so I've read in Mobile Electronics Mag.

Hook up the wires just like rjr162 said. Hook up the brake wire to your foot brake. Then hook up your E-brake wire to your toggle switch. To get the TV mode on, hold down your foot brake then flip the toggle switch up, down and back up and then release the foot brake.

Yea, by adding a switch to the foot brake wire of the Alpine to 12v+ but the foot brake thing is alot cleaner and is pretty easy to use.

which is the dumbest damn thing a person can do and is also why there is a hell of a fine if you're caught doing this.

Im guessing currently you dont have a tv/monitor in your car.. If you had one you might like the idea of being able to watch whatnever, whenever you want.. dont be jelous because others have it and your just behind them trying to see what they are watching.

I do have one for nav, and I install plenty. Watching while you drive is a very idiotic idea, and has nothing to do with jealousy and everything to do with being responsible. When you're eyes are on the screen watching some action scene or something of the sort, how in the hell are you driving you car? You aren't, plain and simple. What you're trying to say is the same as me calling someone who drives a car at 200 mph down the freeway an idiot/arrogent a$$hole, when infact they really aren't, and I'd see that if I drove 200 mph down the highway. No, they are, they are putting others in excess risk just as if you were watching something rather than watching the other cars.

I think.. you think too much.. simply put.. If you had a fast motor.. does it mean you have to drive fast everywhere you go.. no.. if you had a tv in your car. does it mean you have to watch it constantly. ? no,,, in both cases when you do decide to use it.. theres a risk of anything.. feel free to be the net-policeman. but most people do know the laws. and feel free to spread info. regarding motor swaps and how sum "might" not be street legal. and how loud systems can hurt your hearing. and how they should get off the road. Im sure people dont know anything about that also. people know the laws. people break the laws. i guess your not use to someone saying that str8 out.

There is a difference... loud system, etc... that only involves you and typically don't lead to death. Saying you can watch video on the highway etc is just moronic, just like deciding to drive 200 mph on the freeway. Those video lockouts are there for a reason.

Here is my .02
I an not against the video screens...justidiots who use them in a manner
not originally intented. I personally have 3 screens in my CRX and in the process
of installing 3-4 more with 4 that will be in the drivers field of vision! They will
all function per manufactures design. I know this is a "touchy" subject with peeps
...but they just dont see "the BIG picture". Here in Chicago a noise ordinance was passed some years ago...Me and other shop owners, installers,
reps..etc fought the ruling. We lost. Basically it gave authorities the right to
Harass..intimidate...impound anyone who played music " louder than
normal/respectable levels". I witnessed it personally while helping a pal @ his
shop get a vehicle ready for a show. It was to be demo'ed so it would be playing
the duration of the show ( about 24 hrs ) so we're stress testing the truck in his
parking lot. 2 squads pull up and said they could here us 2 blocks over and
it was a warning to shut it down. We complied. They came back 1 hour later
stating we were at it again and they would impound the truck. WTF...( we were
inside the shop..trucks parked in the lot same spot...we basically called it a day
when they first pulled up )..so it was a mess all round.
Sorry for the rant....the basic problem is all its takes a few goofballs ( driving
while full motion video is playing...showing **** while vehicle is on
Public streets etc) having accidents ) to ruin it for the masses. Look
a lot of shops closed and peeps I knew lost jobs because of ordinaces like
this.....Mobile Video was the industries salvation...Now a few peeps are gonna
screw that up too.
Please people....THINK
Im off my soapbox now.

No - they don't.....most people are very ignorant
Case in point, people shouldn't be watching movies while driving the car...simply put, if you are watching a screen you are not watching the road.
People take driving for granted now-a-days and forget that they are "in control" of 4000 lb objects moving at a high rate of speed. Sure you can try to act like Mr. Cool in the end and say you are going to do what you want - but would you feel the same way if a friend/family member, God Forbid of course, got treated like a speed bump because some ******* was checking out The Fast and the Furious on his sweet screen while driving?
Some how, I don't think so....
There's also been talk of fines (and I think such ordinances have been instituted in some areas) for people playing adult content on screens while in public.
Then again, I'm the same person who feels that anything less then a 90% on the driving test should be a failure...

such a heated subject here,, me myself,, i try not to have video while in motion ,, but i do admit occasionally while in bumper to bumper traffic or sitting at a drive though i will pop it on,, i guess i could just blast music instead and annoy everyone around me..
instead of watching tv
instead of watching tv
Such a heated topic.....
It boils down to two groups:
A. Mobile industry guys ( reps,owners,installers,etc)
B. The Consumer.
Industry guys know the deal...One major incident and its game over.
A major lawsuit can bankrupt an indy real quick...loss of jobs and income.
I have seen it before...shops here today..Next day its locked up tight: GONE!!
The consumer on the other hand, just wants the cool video display, basically
showing off to the peeps. So what the if the shop wont do it...I'll go on line
and find out how to bypass it. Hey I bought an IDV ( in dash video ) unit
and its my right to do what I want to do!! We don't need no stinkin'
waiver.
Its the same way with remote starts on manual tranny vehicles..Many don't
think of the outcome if things go wrong. I was run down by a car with
a remote start system some years back. I settled for under $100K,got all
my medical taken care of and the works. Boy was I dumb...Fast foward to now
Lower back pains...walk with a slight limp, may need hip replacement much
earlier than expected. Basically his family got off mildly...if what I know now
was known then...the outcome would be much different.
lesson's over

Which your disclaimer is a buch of bull anyhow. I'm sure it wouldn't stand in court, since the disclaimer says "Show Only", but if you're at a show there is no need for the bypass because your car will be sitting, which would allow the video to play and still comply with both the manufactorers build in video lock and NHTSA rules.
As for the **** deal, I'm sure the "driver" could not only be sited for indecent stuff, but also corruption of minors if anyone young saw it. Look at the case of the guy khyaking (spelling?). He ended up flipping over, and correct himself, yelled the f-word in the process. A park ranger heard it, and there were younger folk in and around the area. The guy ended up getting slapped with corruption of minors.
And what's the need to watch TV while you drive anyhow? That's what you do when you're at home, or go out to eat and watch a game or something, or keep your rear seat passengers entertained and quite. We all know how it is to sit back there. It's not intended for the driver to be watching while driving.
