Alarm Sensitivity problems
Ok i have a compustar 2Wfm900 AS and you can practially jump on my car before the alarm will go off and i would like to increase the sensitivity, from what i've seen from searching you can actually do it from the remote on the viper 5000, any possibility that you can do it from the remote on mine??
also i'm wondering if it's normal that the alarm dosn't go off when someone tries the door handle, like if the door is locked and someone tries to get in, shouldn't the alarm go off?? or is this normal that it dosn't go off?
thanks for any input.

The Compustar impact sensitivity is adjusted using the "wheel" on the impact sensor itself, small increments in movement will change sensitivity a lot, normally set around 3-4, [if installed properly] EG; going from 3 to 3.25, [3-1/4] will make a significant change, don't for get when testing, wait 15-20 sec. after arming to test.
Unless your car has dome-light supervision, [triggered by lifting door handle] or you have installed "door handle trigger switches" the alarm should not go off, that is normal, do not set sensitivity of impact sensor so lifting handle triggers alarm, it will be too sensitive and you will encounter constant false alarms.
Impact sensor should be adjusted so kicking a tire hard will only trigger warn a way at most.

thanks fcm, i figured it should go off if i kick the tire but i can shake the whole damn car and it won't go off. you said there is a wheel on the shock sensor itself...where should that be?? (professionally installed) and will it be easy to get to do you think?
also i do have the ability to have dome light supervision but i don't know how to enable it...is this something that i would be able to setup or is it something that i need another module for??
thanks again for the info, you definatly know your **** man...

First, you have a dual stage shock/impact sensor not a motion sensor, "rocking" the car should not trigger it, impact triggers it, a hard kick to the tire should trigger the warn a way mode.
Impact sensor will be mounted to something solid, steering column or dash sub frame... http://cgi.ebay.com/COMPUSTAR-...sting see the black oval shaped box the ant. is "pointing" to, just to the right of the remotes, harness plugs into the bottom, sensitivity adjustment wheel is at opposite end.
Your alarm has the capability to do dome light supervision, CN5/3 violet (-) 250mA output, relay is needed.
This is diff. then OEM door handle "triggered" dome light supervision, [normally only available on "high end" cars/models, you would have to install switches on the door handle linkage.

oh ok so dome light supervision isn't some simple then
thanks for the info though, i'll look for sensor, it will be mounted to the ouside of the steering column i assume? i'll look for it when i'm off work.
thanks again

thanks again</TD></TR></TABLE> Actually is not that hard to do, you just need a relay to supply the "high current" ground to the door trigger wire, the "low current", [(-) 250mA] output of the alarms CN5/3 violet lead will control the relay, [85] all you need is a 12V+ constant, [86] ground to chassis, [30] and relays output, [87] goes to door trigger wire, dome light will come on when alarm is disarmed and stay on for, [60 sec. I think] until you turn on the ign.
Although you can install switches on the door handles that will trigger alarm, even turn on dome light, [while held "open"] only the alarm will give you dome light supervision, [when disarmed].
If the impact sensor is mounted to the steering column it will most likely be wire tied, [zap strap/cable strap] to "the outside" of the column just above the [closer to steering wheel] brake/clutch peddles, however as I said in may be mounted to the sub frame or firewall, if it is wire tied to a wire harness take it back to where it was installed and have them mount it properly.
Although some impact sensors work best when mounted to a wire harness, the Compustar works best when mounted to a hard surface, this allows for low settings, to prevent false triggering but still get very good sensitivity on the car.
You know you have it right when you can kick a tire hard and it only triggers warn a way but cracking a lug nut free triggers the alarm into full alarming mode.

BTW what is the MM&Y of the car?

it is an 06 Civic LX Sedan
thanks for all your info thus far, i didn't get a chance to look for the sensor yet...i'm gonna try to do it today...gotta get my keys out of it today since i locked them in when i got to work this morning
