Default Adding a Second battery for system??? HOW???

OK,
I reluctantly post this for a friend, because personally my little watch battery in my car seems sufficient.
He's got a 97 Civic EX and wants to put in a second battery (of course in the trunk) to power his system, but of course doesn't want it to die. How would he go about this? what will he need to run both batteries safely and efficiently?

Thanx

Why does he want to do this? Unless he has an upgraded alternator, I don't recommend it, since it will make his problems worse.
