Default Adding amps and components using stock CD player.

I've decided to upgrade the sound in my '99 Civic SI by by upgrading the rear speakers, front speakers, tweeters and a 12" sub but still retaining the stock CD player. Since I've invested most of my money boosting all my cars I've decided to take a step back and see what I can do on the audio part. My rides are all sleepers so I figured why not take the style inside too ( why I'm using the stock player). So my first move is to add the RCA line converter to power my Fosgate 12" and Directed amp. What I need help on is adding power to the 4 speakers and 2 tweeters. So I figured add another RCA line converter and amplifier and use it to power up the speakers. But what brand or type of amplifier will work well to power up the stock speakers? If I decide to toss out the stock speakers, who makes a good component set-up for the front speakers that also have the correct size tweeters to mount on the pods? What about the rear speakers? ( The rears don't have to be components) Finaly on top of all this what brand/type equalizer can I use to fine tune the sound from the speakers. I've only used amps for subs so I'm not too familiar with amps powering speakers so any help here is appreciated.

well you dont really need an equalizer, since most amps now-a-days have good built in crossovers... as far as amping the stock speakers... dont expect them to last long. Stock speakers RMS at about 7-9 watts, so putting an amp on them will shorten their lives... you have 6.5" in the front, and 6x9's in the rear... as far as component sets for the front, i run Polk/Momo's and the tweeter fits perfectly in the factory tweeter pod, and they sound awesome.

I have Cerwin Vega crossovers in the front and love them, but I've owned them for 8 years, so I dont know if they make anything like them anymore. I've heard a lot of Polk systems and i have to agree with ^^^ that they sound really good, and for a good price too. By the way, good pick on the sleeper effect. Its way too underplayed on the tuners. Everyones all show and no go. The cars look great like they are, they need more help under the hood. A+ man!

Thanks for the help. Those Polk Momo's look like a good buy. I had a chance to look at my stock speakers today and the RMS on all of them are definitely too low for amp use. What would be a good set to use for the rear speakers? I thought about using an equalizer because the stock head unit will be useless in adjusting any tone or balance once I install the amps since all the speakers and sub will be wired directly to the amps. It's been a while since I shopped around for amps so the built in crossovers may be good enough. Also, the sleeper thing is something I've grown accustomed to due to the fact that flashy parts are just eye candy for theives so I figured if someone looked in and sees that I'm still rolling around with a stock deck, they would assume the same about speakers, engine parts, etc. Hehehe. 12 psi of boost sounds so beautiful.

Sounds nice. The crossovers on modern amps don't change tone at all. You would need an equalizer for that. Crossovers just change the frequency at which the amp will send sound to the speakers. Polk makes some good 6x9s as well. Also, check out Infinity. I've like some of their stuff as well. Your best bet though is to just go to a decent stereo shop and listen to a bunch of different speakers.

</TD></TR></TABLE> Get a good 4ch amp W/ x-overs built in and 4 speaker input and a RCA output, [non fading output] to run to a monoblock sub amp, that way you will still have tone and balance control off the OEM HU and you will evan have a little fade control, [not needed] as for what kind of amps and speakers, I can't tell you, there are lots out there, 94

Good idea FCM. I've been looking around for amps and discovering there are so many variations and features available that anything can be done. I like your 4 channel amp to mono amp idea. That would make an easy install. If any of you guys have a chance to shout out a few good amps to use like FCM said that would help me so I don't waste my money on a pricey unit or too cheap a brand. But I'll keep looking and let you all know how it turns out.
