well in terms of SQ its not worth it and i'm sure you could sell to 6x9s and get components

It can be done, however, I hope you're handy with the air saw & dremel.
Also, you'll need to space them out accordingly so they don't hit the window.
And usually, 6x9's sound good in the rear deck because, relatively speaking, the trunk acts as a sort of "sealed" enclosure. Additionally, the rear deck acts as a great barrier to keep the front and back of the speaker separated.
With that said, mounting a 6x9 in the front doors will not produce as good of a sound as I think you're expecting. But if you're willing to hack up your door and door panel to fit those 6x9's in there only to have mediocre sound quality just because you "have the speakers already", be my guest.

Brandon</TD></TR></TABLE>I have, we installed a set of Eclipse SP6900 Point Source into the doors of a 90 CRX, took a little over 2 weeks about 40 hours, it cost him $1600 + $160 in shop material + 14% PST/GST, and for $2000 Canadian we can do it for you also.
If you want to try it yourself you will need a few thing......
Metal cutting tools, [aircraft snips, reciprocating saw, dremel and files.
A Tig/Mig welder [wire welder], so much material has to be removed to place speaker properly, the hole edge will have to be reinforced.
MDF and fiber-glassing materials, to construct the speaker housings.
Upholstering tools and materials for the redesigned door panels.
Not sure on your Civic or the speakers you have but in a 90 CRX with Eclipse SP6900 Point Source we had to remove brake and clutch levers "reshape", [bend] them so they where closer to each other and the gas pedal, for a more comfortable drive as the speaker, [door panel[ stuck out a little.
We thought that when we explain to the customer how far the door panels had to stick out he would think twice about it, but he didn't care he wanted them, we had installed a set in his Dodge PU and he liked them, we also remounted his drivers seat back another 1.5", [moved sear back on the tracks] he is a tall guy, and angled it in just a hint to line up more naturally with the new peddle geometry.
Turned out pretty good, looked good and sounded great, he was a little less impressed with what it cost him when he sat in our 95 teg demo car with Eclipse SP6500 Point Source in custom MDF speaker housings behind stock grills, for less then half what he paid and dame near **** himself when he heard my 94 LS, 7 year old Eclipse 6.5" 2ways on custom MDF speaker housings, behind stock grills.

Think about what you are about to do, the work involved to do it right, the tools needed to do it properly, you can get great sound with much less work , but it's your car and your time, have at her.

and in your honest opinion how would the sound of those compare with lets say for example, a 3 way component set such as the dynaudio or DLS in a set of fiberglass kicks (and if you fabricate the kicks yourself you could probably afford a fairly nice amp all for the price of installing that)

Oh we tried to talk him out of it, explaining we could get as good or better sound out of even a set of components in the stock locations, but as they say "the customer is always right" and he already had a set in his Dodge PU and liked them, that's why he insisted.
The Eclipse SP6900 is a very good speaker also, a true component, even comes with tweeter mounting hardware, [if you want to mount them remotely, they are removable].
As I said it ended up sounding very good, imaging was excellent, and with a set of Eclipse SP6500 woofers in the rear stock locations, [ off HU power] a single JL Audio 10W6AE, fronts and sub running off a JL Audio 450/4. and an Alpine CDA 7894.
Yes he could have had as good or possibly even better sound with a set of 3way components, especially if they where Dynaudio or DSLs.
As I also said we had him listen to a demo car and my own 94LS and he was impressed, but still happy with what he had, although a little surprised that a 6.5" could sound as good as his 6x9s.
As it turns out, car was stolen about a year later, and was recovered gutted with the doors and engine gone, [he had a swack of cash in the motor also, he rebuilt the car, we reinstalled all the same equipment, except the 6x9s, went with, the 6.5" Point Sourse.
